New Power Window Inoperative TSB.

Has anyone here had a power window motor go bad on them? It sounds like the motors have to fail before getting replaced ....... what fun that could be.

i got the brake pads replaced for the squeaking issue, and its gone completely, and i thought the squeaking was coming from the back. Braking power is not noticeably diminished ( i hard stopped from 70 to test em out) nor do they have to turn the rotors...simple fix, good results.

 

funny how most of the TSB's are not mentioned as problems on this board.

 

Just what I wanted to hear... How many miles did you have on the old pads? Also, why would braking power be "noticeably diminished on new pads?"

 

That's because most companies including Mazda like to listen to "experts" who don't even own the product and perhaps drive more expensive cars that don't even relate to this car than listen to consumers who really have a genuine concern about the product. It's very typical...

 

i had 8400 miles and everyone was avoiding this fix because they a thought it was the back brakes and b thought that the new material would make less noise but be lower quality or higher in brake dust...havent noticed either in two days. and i drive hard too in those 8400 miles ive brought my tires down to 4/32nds and the brakes feel the same now.

 

I got the brake squeal fix and not is the brake squeal gone but the brake dust seems to be reduced as well.

I will look harder for dust in the upcoming days, but it seems to be reduced noticeably.

Like Mr. Wiggles, I got new brake pads recently. No squeals -- but then again, my OE brakes didn't squeal at first. The day after the brake job, I went on a 1,000+ mile trip, and found not only the usual amount of brake dust but dust that seemed harder to wipe off with a paper towel (I do that after almost every outing).

As these brakes are new, I looked again at the procedure for break-in that has appeared on this forum and in Road & Track. I didn't have time to do it before the trip. A question: My front pads are new (1,000) miles, but the rears have over 12,000. Would the break-in be wrong for them? I would guess not, in part because they do much less of the work, particularly in hard braking, but I always feel better to have my hunches confirmed by experts.

The brake dust I used to get was very heavy on the front wheels and almost none on the back wheels.

Now, after driving about 500 miles on these new pads and shims I get definitely less on the front than before. Now, the front wheels are only getting a little more dusty than the rear - definite improvement. (oh, and of coarse no squealing now either.)

Did you actually get the full TSB done or just "new" pads?

If you don't have it, your service department likely won't change it, so you probably don't have a choice until the squealing rears its ugly head.

 

Take in a dozen donuts and walk out with the pads..

What I don't understand is why it has been so hit and miss... I've heard of cars from the same production month that had horrible squealing brakes, yet I have never heard a peep out of mine. Did Mazda have different pad types they used, or has it been tracked down to climate/geography differences, etc?

For you guys that have had them replaced...
I have horrible brake dust, but my car stops like nothing I've ever driven... it's a trade off I'm happy with living with. With the newer pads generating less dust, do you guys that upgraded feel you have the same stopping power?

 

This has been a tough nut to crack....from what I hear all the pads where from the same source.

Some theories include the amount of rust on the rotor when thecars came off the ships and how the pads were first bedded.

I have a problem with the second one because I have 2 equally obsessive customers with early builds. (both of them are on this forum BTW)

One waited patiently until the new pads showed.

The other doesn't seem to have the problem.

And with several 8's on the road we have only replaced two sets

Either way I'm glad they came up with a fix.

 

G8r: I haven't tried to slam the brakes yet, but in regular driving, I feel like the brake performance is the same. Having replaced my brakes on my prior car, I remember feeling a difference in the amount of pressure I had to apply to make similar stops. Not so here. So far, I feel these pads perform almost exactly the same as the original ones. I've heard one person here mention concern in the durability of the new pads, but obviously I have no way of evaluating that at this point.

With the advantages of eliminated brake squeal and virtually no brake dust on the wheels now, I'm very satisfied with the fix so far.

 

Thanks to the posted TSB's, I just had the dealer replace my front brake pads due to excessive brake noise. The silence is wonderful.

 

Well they modified the MSP04 today..

Not gonna explain it....

Some cars appear to be going backwards..

Yeah, I am back to 10-12 so don't brag. Please don't misunderstand, I love my 8, but I bought it to be a daily driver and that has turned out to be an impossible task for the car.

Squeal Noise From Front Brakes During Braking - Revised 11/08/04

Original TSB revised to now include applicable model and VIN information.

 

I took my car in with a copy of this service bulletin and they still refused to change the brakes out.

 

Were they able to make it squeak? If not they were following directions that say they have to validate your claim.

 

A) Does you car fall within the VIN range specified?
B) Do the brakes squeal?
C) What did they give you as a refusal reason?

I'm waiting until spring to have mine done. I hope the dealer does not refuse mine as I fall within the spec'd VIN and mine do squeal.
