Corrosion issues with oil coolers and lines
Is anyone aware of any issues around early corrosion and subsequent failure of the oil coolers and lines to them? One of my oil coolers and several associated lines corroded thru at 56K miles. Seems pretty unusual to me since such lines are often copper and the cooler should be aluminum (in most other cars). Cost to repair: $ 2,700

There have been a few failures in the UK on the early cars. I have a new one registered May 06. I have dropped the wheel arch liners to give mine an eyeballing before the winter. All bright and shiney but it looks as though they now have upgraded fittings - non ferrous or heavily anodised. Anyway gave mine a good spray with rust proofer to be sure. This type of failure could cause catastrophic engine failure if not caught in time. It can also spray the front brakes with oil ( not good ) and has the potential to cause a fire. I would advise anybody who has an 8 old or newish to check their oil coolers - takes about 5 minutes aside and is worth it for peace of mind.
