Contesting Warranty?

Took my 04 in for loss of power today. My general factory warranty expired this July. I am getting a new engine paid for by Mazda becuase of the extended powertrain warranty. They also found that they need to replace 4 igintion coils at $46/ea +labor. In total I have to pay ~ $400.
I complained on my last oil change under 4yr factory warranty that I had a loss of power. They checked it out and said everything was in spec. Now it turns out it may have been in spec, but they didnt check everything. This caused my power loss to get worse. Since they turned me away and said everything is fine now I am out of warranty. Now I have to pay for the coils and I get no rental car.

Do you think I can contest my warranty with Mazda? This obviously was an issue under warranty. They didnt put in the effort until I was paying the labor costs

If you can prove that they didn't follow all the procedures for checking when under warranty then you've got a case. If you're in the states, call up MNAO and see what they say.

CAll MNAO first.

and also, 400 ~ bucks for coils (including parts and labor) is fuxking nuts. It could be replace in as little as 15 minutes, talking about all 4. and the parts itself cost about 27 bux each shipping included (buy all 4)

I went through a similar scenario back at the end of 2005. Made complaints about loss of power on each visit for an oil change starting at about 46,000 miles up through 58,000 miles. At 58,000 (in Dec 2005) I was unable to start the vehicle at all one morning and had it towed to the dealer. At this point te dealer finally did a compression test and failed the motor. Even though my complaints started within warranty coverage period (which was only 50,000 back then), MNAO refused to cover the replacement. Even my dealer was on my side in the argument, and in the end wound up putting in the replacement reman. motor at $0.00 labor charges which they had to eat, but I had to cover the cost of the replacement motor and associated parts and materials. I even began a legal pursuit on the on the grounds that my original motor wasn't made available to me after replacement (in my state, a repair shop must offer your original parts back to you since they are technically your property - MNAO was having nothing to do with letting me take possession of my blown motor so the dealer made no such offer) to no avail.

I finally got my money back after making application for same once the extended warranty kicked in.

Since there is a much more established track record on motor failuers in evidence today than when I had my first motor go, hopefully you'll get better treatment from MNAO than I did back then.
