Choking/Clogging Noise

My car recently started making this funky noise almost like it was choking or drowning. I changed the oil (full synthetic), changed the spark plugs, and wires, cleaned the k&n filter. Still making the noise when I get to approximately 5600 rpm. Anybody had a similar issue and solved it?
My Mods are:
2004 8 w/ ACT Flywheel, stage 1 clutch, k&n typhoon V.1, Grddy SP2 Catback exhaust. Taylor Racing wires, NGK Iridium Spark plugs

Sorry about the nOOb question (first time rotary owner) Are the coils the 4 cap at the end of my spark plug wires? And about the cat, I've decide today to get a midpipe to replace that. ty

I'm having the same issue with my '04 RX-8. My dealer just replaced my cat today and they've got the coil pack on order.

We're thinking that the bad coil let unburnt gas into the cat which caused it to fail prematurely. Hook your car up to a computer and check for misfires. Or you could hook up an old inductive timing light and look for stutters.

I don't know. There are a couple places listed on page three of the thread I mentioned, but I don't have any experience with them.

I only mentioned going to the dealer because you can probably get it all done for free if you're still under warranty.

My warranty days are all gone, but thx for your help. You too will one day roam the vast desolate plains of the unwarranted rotary engine. lol
