Check Engine Light

My check engine light comes on for a few days at a time and then goes off again. I brought it to auto zone to get the code read and it says a critical HVAC error. Then it said something about ATC??? Does anyone know what that means? The light has been off for about a week and I have had zero issues while driving. I was curious if anyone else has seen this code?

Do you have the code number itself?

Ken,

I just found the receipt from auto zone and here is what it says:

P2259

HVAC system is reporting a critical error- torque reduction requested
Check ATC system for fault codes.

To add to all this, the computer thought that it was a Chrysler???

A lot of the codes are not universal, and vary from one make to another. According to the list of codes for the RX-8 (they're in a sticky at the top of one of these fora) that code is:

P2259 AIR solenoid valve control circuit low ON 2 CCM

and according to the shop manual has something to do with the secondary air injection (AIR)system.

There's a great pdf of the shop manual at

http://www.hi-impact.org/ryang/modif...8_manuals.html

and there's a page on this code and system in 04_EngineControl. The problem could be anything from a bad connection to a bad PCM.

Looking this much up pretty much exhausts my knowledge. Hopefully some of the more knowledgable members here can guide you further.

Hi everyone.

so my check engine light came on recently and i took my 8 to th auto shop for an ODB scan.
and the codes PO456 and PO442 came up. the guy at the shop told me it was a problem with the "canister purge valve". but when i went home and reseached it i noticed that many others got the same code and its a common issue with the gas cap not being tight (a glitch).

i also heard mazda fixes this glitch for free. but has anyone else had a canister purge valve problem? i think the guy was bullshitting just trying to grt me to pay for something, because the car runs great and nothing sketchy is going on when i drive it.

thanks

Could be as simple as the loose gascap, you don't have a location or the year of your car - has it been reflashed at the dealers?

The fix is a change to the computer program, but most cars in the US got it long ago....
