Just the opposite you goof!
Redline:
MT90 Tranny
75W90 Diff'l
It is a bit lighter than OEM in the tranny but I like it and have no issues. I too changed around 20k and now have about 25k.

that's because your using mt-90 you goof. It's too light and doesn't allow the syncros to align fast enough cause it's too thin. You need redline 75w90 NS for the tranny and the mt90 is for the diff. Now you can add a bit of MT90 to your tranny oil(75w90) if you so choose but 90 all by itself is too damn light.

MT90 is 75W90 GL-4, and widely successful in RX-8 manual transmission. It has proper friction for synchronizers, and none of the GL-5 worries about whether or not yellow-metal is protected.
MTL is 70W80, and has been found generally to be too light for the RX8 manual transmission. Possible exception in extremely cold climates. And, along those lines, some people mix MT90 and MTL.

I was soo sidetracked by the fail that I forgot to answer the OP.
Drop about half a quart into the gearbox you'll have to pull the stick shifter out. It got rid of my grinding.

Redline MT90 GL4 IS for your Tranny, I like may others here have been using it for many thousands of miles and have had great reports..in fact this is the first I have heard of any high RPM change issues with MT90...
The 75W90 GL5 is for Differential (LSD one).
GL4 (Trans) and GL5 (Diff) is what the factory recommend.
Many have had problems with GL5's in the Manual GearBox.
