Like so many others, my air pump began to give me the shrill, high pitched whine and I dove into the pump to replace the bearings with new ceramic bearings sourced from an in-line skate bearing company. They should last forever.

I bench tested the pump and it blows a ton of air. Perfect.

I replaced it in the car, and now the car throws a CEL (P0410) indicating an issue with the pump. I reset the code and it's now back on again.

Any thoughts on why this might be happening? The pump is functioning as normal. There's only one hose connection on the pump and I have that correct. There's only one electrical plug on the unit and that's correct, too.

Appreciate the thoughts/help.

P0410 looks at the O2 sensor seeing the air pump air, so since you say your pump works, the next step is to make sure the passage into the engine is clear, and actually i think you should check the air control valve too, and make sure the air pump air CAN go into the engine.

 

Checked the valve and it was fine. I once again erased the codes, and then reset the NVRAM for good measure, and thus far, I'm okay:
