Cel p0410

Okay guys,

Bought my OBII reader. Definately worth the £20 quid. Works great.

Pulled the P0410 code to shine some light.

On a cold start when the air pump kicks in, the cel comes on. Im not sure if its the air pump that is knackered or if there is just a leak. Ive seen other videos of the air pump malfunctioning where it has a high pitched wine. Mine on the other hand, sounds like a really throaty growl. Im trying to think whether it may have a leak somewhere? Because as soon as the engine comes to temperature the pump turns off, as it should! No more noise :-/

So must be the air pump! I know i need to try pulling the connector to the air pump when the car starts from cold to distinguish it definately is the pump.

My questions are :

1) which connector do i pull to disable the pump?
2) does anyone have a diagram or any pics! or even explain the routes of the air hoses from the pump so i can look for leaks?

One more thing, the throaty growl is coming from the drivers side, near the pump. Difficult to hear if it is the pump because the noise resonates.

The car itself has done 101,000 miles. The engine has done 2000.

Would much appreciate you help.

Josh

If you want to monitor the noise, the air pump stops when you reach 35°C water temperature.

You can disable it just disconnecting the black connector on its top, but clearly the CEL will remain. It is a CEL which triggers if o2 front sensor sees a rich AFR after turning car on, so there's no way to avoid it when car is started from quite cold.

I removed my air pump, air control valve and pipe, put a metal cap in the exhaust to close the hole left by the pipe and I simply shut down the CEL everytime it pops up when I star the car, just 2 seconds and 2-3 keys pressed on obd-ii.

Thanks for the info. Hmmmmmm Im pretty sure its making some sort of noise. If it wasnt working would the gases from the exhaust manifold make their way up the wrong way into the air pump and make some sort of strange throaty noise? :/

Ill try and upload a video of it.
