I live in cali and normally do not have to let the car warm up for all that long as it is normally hot here.

Well, winter is upon us and I didn;t think about it....

I was driving to work and the engine was still cold, I went to redline the engine (as I normally do on this drive) and from a stop I began accelerating, at about 7K RPM, there was a fairly large hesitation in acceleration, and the check engine light flashed on and off 5 or six times.

I downshifted, and it drove normally the rest of the drive.

After work I let the engine warm up, and repeated this process with no hesitation and no CEL flashing, the car drove like it always does. i have not noticed an issue since.

Was this simply a warm up issue? Or could this be the start of something sinister?
Inquiring minds want to know. I am approaching the end of my warranty so every little thing has me wondering.

I have seen several threads on similiar issues, but nothing exactly like this that I could find.

You guys are always great witht the knowledge, so thank you in advance for any help.

Most likely no real issue but wait for someone with more experience to answer.....but........don't do that again!
You should wait for warm-up and I know you just forgot. Probably a misfire with the way it was flashing.

the answer is in your owners manual.. (read it) the ecu protects the motor till it is warm.. the cel flashing is a missfire. may or may not be related..

Probably a misfire....it will likely have a pending code set.....get it checked to be sure

I am definitely going monday to get this checked. I had a repeat of this situation today. The car was warm, but had been shut off for 30 minutes. I started it up, accelerated from 1st from a stop and at 7K rpms, no hesitation, but the CEL flashed at me again. And then it stayed off the rest of the 15 minutes I was driving....

When I go to the dealership, is there anything I should be pushing for them to check?

Plugs? Anything else?

Thanks to all that posted, pushed me in the right direction.

The issue was 2 bag spark plugs, they were replaced under warranty, and the car is happy again.

As a side note, I have a K&N air filter ver 2 typhoon, I thought I might get static from them regarding my warranty, but there was no issue with it.

Also, if this helps others... The tech told me (not sure if this is true) that if the CEL stays lit, it is always an emissions / smog related issue, and if it continually flashes, it is an engine malfunction of some sort.

I have the same issue but is blinking just on the time I’m wait for the airbag passenger light shut off but I read here it’s some issues with the maf sensor I buy other one replacement brand and is on but I try to normal driving is rev weird sound like I have bud fuel pump because the sound is normal to cut it to fast. okay now here is my trouble I put back the old one and the car no want to start. I put the maf sensor post to be new and it’s start but with the issue now guys can you help me to figure it what I do or something I do wrong because I try to buy a denso maf brand new and it’s sounds like the old one I have the issue no want to start and now it’s flashing the engine light just open position key. I need help because I doing just for maintenance but now I’m try to keep on it but don’t want to start Mazda 2007 rx8 manual transmission thank for help I’m really appreciate 🤜🏻
