Most likely it is just flooded, this should help:

You can also push start the car, that works pretty well for a flooded engine.

I had the same problem and had to replace the spark plugs. A mazda dealership told me to never start the car and turn it right off. If you are just going to move the car, you should rev the car to 7000 rpms before turning it off so the engine doesn't flood.

You don't even have to rev it to 3k, but what you must do is let it get to normal operating temp(or close) before shutting it off. This really only takes about what 2-3 minutes tops? If you hand someone your keys, then it's your dutty to let them know.................and you should know better than to shut it off cold.

My understanding is that you give it a little bit, like around 30 sec to 1 min, for the rpm to come down a little to around 1500 rpm. Then gas pedal gently to 3000 rpm steady for 10 sec, release gas pedal. Gas pedal gently to 3000 rpm again and release again, if you feel you need the reassurance of doing it a second time. During revving, I listen to the engine until it is smooth and stops stumbling. After release of gas pedal, wait for rpm to go down smoothly and gradually to about 1200 to 1000 rpm (no need IMO to wait for engine to reach full operating temp or for rpm to get all the way down to 800 rpm). Then I feel confident turning off the engine. Total time should take no more than 2 min.
