car vibration while in drive? any ideas

Hey guys I am very new to this forum as I just bought a 2004 RX8 with 42,000 miles yesterday. The only prolblem I have with the car is that when in drive I get this wicked bad vibration that shakes the whole car and is really annoying. Whenever I come to a red light also, But if I'm just cruising the car is smooth as a whistle. Any idea's on this. Thanks

Mitch

Automatic I assume (from the "in drive" comment)

Does this seem to be related to which gear you are in? Your post is a bit hard to understand. Aren't you "in drive" when you are cruising? Can you clarify please?

So do you mean it only happens when you "first" put it into drive?

By cruising, do you mean highway cruise? or actually just driving?

Motor mounts is a possibility, but I am trying to eliminate that it is something related to which gear you are in. I know that automatic torque converters can cause alot of vibration if you are in drive and on the brake (stopped). I don't know why/when they do this, but I have experienced it in several rental cars. Fluid needs to be changed perhaps?

Thats very helpful thank you. It vibrates all the time when in drive as long as I'm not on the gas, If I am on the gas it doesnt vibrate at all. By driving I meant just cruising around town but as soon as I stop at a redlight or anything it vibrates alot. Any more ideas? Thanks

So I'm taking the RX8 back to the dealer tomorrow where I bought it from to have the Vibration figured out...it is getting progressively worse as I drive the car and especially in drive it sounds like the whole car is gonna fall apart, I'm pretty pissed because you think they would of noticed this when they even pulled it in the garage to detail it before they gave it to me. Also when I start my car in the cold when the air pump turns on it sounds like an airplane its not too too loud yet but it seems like its getting worse. I wanna try to get everything possible tooken care of before my warranty is up on the car. Any good idea's thanks

Yep Motor mounts. The 2004's Tq converter is faily smooth when the fluid is at the proper level. Starts to whine/burble when its gets low.

For the Air pump, does it have a nice failed bearing sound? Can't hurt to have them look anyway.
