Car is smoking and i dont know what is wrong

Hey yall, ok my car is smoking really bad and when i shut it off it wont turn back on for about three hours and when you drive it and stop it smells like something is burning. I have no clue what is wrong with it and i was wonderin if it could be the heat? or if anyone else has this trouble with theirs...i bought mine wrecked so it could probably be a number of things. any suggestions would be great! thanks!

This is a 2009 or 2010 because that's the forum section your in. If the vehicle was crashed then it should only be on the road after it's fixed. You can't just start driving up something smashed lol?

Please explain...

ok apparently it wasnt the cap...it still wont start and i have no clue what to do...it wont turn over...all the lights come on and it acts like it wants to but it just wont turn over.Do you think it could just need a jump? when i put water in the radiator it just sucks it up and about an hour later there is no water left! i dont have any idea...

doesnt hurt to jump
check for any leaks. there might be a coolant leak thats why it was smoking

...Park on an incline with the front higher than the rear, remove the cap, fill until about half full... run car at idle (If car won't start, sounds most likely like its flooded, perhaps from when you are starting it, checking your rad and what not, and then turning it off too soon, have someone give you a jump.) You will eventually turn over and run hard for a second or two, let it idle, get up to temp and turn on your heater all the way up.. adding 50/50 water antifreeze mix until tank is almost full, make sure you put the cap back on tightly. This will correctly bleed any air pockets currently in your cooling system. Once this is all done your in a position to start looking for a leak.. let us know where its from... engine bay, rad cap (boil over), or.. yikes, exhaust
