My daughters "8" shakes/shutters when you first put it in gear (04' with automatic 46k miles). Once you are rolling it seems to quit and doesn't seem to do it any more. She says that her friends Eclispe does the same thing when she first takes off. Is this the ABS going through a check or the tranny ?

Check the motor mounts, earlier model 8s had failures that cause the engine to vibrate at idle and lower gears. New mounts have a heat shield that keeps the rubber from cracking, usually the passenger side mount goes first.
