Car gets stuck on gears and engine sputters!!
I was driving today and my car wouldnt move on 4th gear. So i pulled over and my car turned off. I started it again and the engine light came on. The engine started sputtering all of a sudden. After 10 minutes of letting it cool off i started the car again and came home. WTF!!
I have a 2006 Rx-8 1.3L with no mods!! It only has 44k miles. Ive had it for about 6 months and done every maintenance job to it.
What could it be?!?!?
Im taking it to the dealer ship this afternoon to get some answers but for some reason i trust you guys here on the forums more than the mechanics at dealerships.
Please help!!!!!

Please list what all you have done maintenance wise since you bought the car.
I can imagine a lot of things that you might not have done to your car.
BC.

If you have a check engine light take it to autozone before the dealership and get the code pulled. Post that code here if possible, and also what bladecutter said. If you just take it to the dealer they will generally remove the code and say "this is whats wrong: " and never give you the code.

Well the first thing i did was take it to the mazda dealership i always go to. Now i did this because they offered to tell me what exactly was going on with the car and not fix it until i said i so. So right now im waiting til they call me and tell me the bad news.
If i knew autozone had computers to pull codes i would have done it there before taking it to the dealer. =/
Ive done oil changes. 5-20 every 3k mile. I also check the oil every 250 miles just incase it needs more.
Cleaned the MAF.
Thats it for now. I know i gotta change the spark plugs and coils real soon but i didnt think it would make a big deal if i waited.

OK. I got a call back form the dealership and this is what they said needs to be done to get the car running back to normal.
Coils
Decarbed
Throttle Body Service
Air Filter
Plugs
Wires.
All these things need to be changed. According to the mazda dealership.
And their charging me a grand total of $1,067 for all of it with a 12k mile warrenty!
BTW the check engine code was P0301.
Guys what do you think? How would you approach this situation.

Just wanted to update my situation here.
I finally changed out the spark plugs. And let me tell you that those plugs were carbonated to the max. They looked like i dipped them in brown paint. So i changed all of them.
I also changed out the ignition coils. Damn what a difference this made.
Not only does my car work again but it drive smooth now. NO lag or sputtering. And i bet the MPG gotta's get better.
I didnt do the air filter cause when i checked it out it looked fine. But anyways in a couple weeks i'll invest in a K&N filter and slap that baby in.
But thanks your all your help guys. I spend maybe $200 and 4 hours. And all i gotta say is F@#$ the dealer ships.
