I know this sounds like the same old no start issue - routinely dead battery or flooded - but it's slightly different.

My car was parked for 3 months during my move to Chicago. I went to start it today and the key turned with nothing happening - no interior lights etc. I put a portable 12V battery charger on it and flipped the key over to ACC to see if I now had juice - I did so I turned it back to OFF. I gave it about 30 seconds and turned it over to start it and as soon the key went from ACC over to START, all my interior lights went out. Thinking I popped a fuse and don't own a multi meter, I began pulling fuses and swapping with like voltages of non-essential equipment - no change. I changed the 60A directly off the battery, the ACC and Ignition fuses, am I still missing a fuse?

I dug around the forum and the closest I can come to an explanation is I used my valet key - long story made short I left my keys at work which is possible since I ride the L (subway) home, I know... Anyway, I read here it's part of the theft deterent system? I have a second standard key and it now does no good either.

I'm gonna call Mazda roadside tomorrow and let them take a swing at it but I figured I would plead my case before you guys hoping to avoid a wasted afternoon at a dealership...

Any help is appreciated.

 

I don't know the amperage of your charger but if the battery is indeed "dead" it will take more than 30 seconds to recharge the battery.
Maybe you can swing a new battery out of this deal?

 

I had something similar, if it is a manual most likely clutch switch, I have heard of at least on other problem.

My clutch switch burned out the 2nd day i got it, thought i flooded the car, but it was the swicth. FREEMAN mazda really helped me out they gave me the switch from another 8, and i did not even buy the car from them.

 

This happened very recently with my 05 Shinka. I got a new battery. Mine only sat for 10 days though. No amount of charging fixed mine, that battery was finished. The 05 has a main fuse at the battery terminal. Not sure about the 04.

 

The only main fuse issues I see come from jumping the car with the terminals reversed. As for the original issue..3 months can be an issue with most OEM batteries.
Most of the members up "nort" will tell you a trickle charger will work wonders.
