A/C Compressor Seized?

Recently picked up car from my dealer after having an engine replaced..damn seals..and there was a note on the paperwork that said my a/c comp was seized. Before I even call to see how much they'll try and rob me I located a few compressors that are like $150-$200. Is it worth it? More importantly...is this a job that a normal gear head can accomplish?

Any tools out to the ordinary that I'd have to pickup or pretty much a socket set?

You will need to have the gas in the a/c removed by an approved tech, it's not good for the eco system.

Go to any shop that does AC work and have them evacuate the system.
Open system, remove compressor.
Flush the system, they sell chemicals for this.
Change and Lubricate ALL o-rings
Replace compressor with your new used unit, be sure it has appropriate oil
Go back to the shop and have them vacuum the lines and refill with refrigerant.
Turn on and enjoy.

That is the simplest explanation of what is needed. The shop should not charge you anymore than an hours labor the first time. The second will be labor and the cost of the refridgerant. you do not need a boat load of tools to do this. Unless you have a leak on the evaporator it is a very simple job IMO. Make sure you flush all the lines, if you don't you can kill your new compressor very quickly. Make a weekend of it, have fun.
