Broken clutch?!?!

It's all Toyotas fault, if they weren't taking up everyones time with all their recalls other problems with other car companies would be looked into more. Lets face it, this is very serious. Problem is there have been what, 2 RX8's sold for every million Toyotas? And lets not forget, we need to knock Toyota down a few notches. Who do they think they are selling so many cars?

I'm afraid this gonna happen on my car. Even though it has <6000 miles on it I've already heard some popping sounds coming from the clutch pedal. Should I try to pressure the dealership into fixing it before it happens?

Stuck in a love triangle
This happened to me recently. Clutch pedal slowly but surely broke over the course of 2 days..and I thought I lost the entire clutch. But my car's 5 years old now so it's not that surprising...just disappointing

File a complaint please....this needs to be addressed.
Mine snapped over two years ago...I got a response that they were finally looking into the issue...but the more complaints the better.

It's true. If I had been on the highway instead of driving through a neighborhood when the pedal finally conked out...I could have been in/caused a huge accident...or worse. Plus my wallet is now lighter from having to pay for an inspection, the clutch pedal, and the labor for installing the pedal.
EDIT: I filed with the NHTSA. It is odd though that I haven't heard much about this happening on here, especially considering that most owners with 8s as old as mine who drive roughly 15,000 miles a year should now have about 100,000+ miles on their cars by now. I'm still under 70k though
a clutch pedal should not snap, at 6k miles or 100k miles....that pedal is just as important as the brake and accelerator.....creates the same risk to your safety, as well as those on the road with you. Imagine if we were now talking about a brake pedal..imagine that thing snapping....I think it would be more than "just disappointing".

The report that the NHTSA guy sent me indicated that they were investigating (i dont recall the actual number) less than a hundred complaints of the clutch bracket snapping. He sent me a more detailed form to complete to list the details of the incident, when it happened, what speeds I was driving, the type of road, driving conditions, etc.. He also asked me to send in pictures of the bracket...which I still have cause I anticipate getting some money back from mazda and wanted proof along with my service bill.
These things should not brake.
Currently have a Mazda 3 with a noisy clutch pedal.

Wow...the recall actually ended up happening, and YES, I did file a complaint back in June thanks to kewscott's recommendation. Fight the power baby!

Good job! I got a notice from Mazda in the mail today about this. Looks like it will be free of charge to fix, should it happen. It does specifically say that if you aren't having an issue then you shouldn't contact the dealer, but to keep the notice in your glove box should a problem arise. There is also a reimbursement form for people that have paid for this to be fixed in the past.
Looks like some of you guy made waves, and were heard... good work!

ok, this problem just happened to me 30 min ago on the freeway.
my clutch has been squeaking for a month now and i thought it was nothing but last week i was happy because the squeaky noise was gone. until today, i was traveling on the freeway ready to switch gears 3 to 4 then i pressed the clutch heard a small pop and now the clutch is stuck half way every time. i have to get my foot under the clutch just to pop it back up. but switching into gears still feels smooth the only problem is that its difficult to get into reverse..
have never been so scared driving this car in my life till now, not to mention i was at the dealership 2 days ago for the condensation in the tail lights issue.
so does my situation seem like it was just a weld that came loose? is there any way i can tell?

So I was driving around today and then I heard a "snap" and my clutch felt kind of funny. It still works but it feels a little like the pedal is a bit on the creaky side. I dont know if this signs that my cltuch assembly is about to snap at the bracket. If this is the case, what are the steps I should take to getting it fixed. I dont have to drive cause Lucky I can walk to work or just get a ride from one of my buddys on post. So pls get back to asap. Thanks very much
