Break Squeal

The brakes on my RX8 are making a loud squeal noise each time I stop. I took it to the mazda shop and they put on these new modified break shoe pads. It lasted about 2 weeks and now its worse then ever. The front and back both squeal each time i stop, so I took it back. The shop called the main mazda store and ask what can be done about it. They gave a reference number and said they know all about it but as of right now they have nothing to fix this with. Its not faulty, just sounds bad. So each time I Hit brakes everyone knows its me coming, has anyone else had this issue.

carolina ... there has been a letter issued to all mazda dealerships. They're aware of the problem and should issue you a new set of brakes. .

Here's more detailed inforamtion .

Pete, did you get yours changed yet or do you know any other 8 owners in Toronto area that went through this process? My dealer sucks and I'm going to have to push hard to get it done unless others have.

I got it change 3 times .

First the pads.
The the two front plates
and finally the recall fix

They squeak a bit now after the final change. But I guess the reason why the squeak now is due to the cold and debris getting in there.
I need to wait for the summer to know 100 percent .

Call prima mazda to get it changed .

Mine was squeeling but only up to 10 mph and then it goes away. I took it to the dealership to get it fixed via TSB, squeels went away for a day. The next cold morning it squeels from 30mph - 0.0000005 mph braking. Stupid stupid stupid.

I still have yet to bring it back to the dealership because Cali was getting lots of rain recently and the dealership told me to come back when it's guaranteed to have dry days. They said they wouldn't road test it if it was wet.

The brakes on my RX8 were making a squeal noise each time I stopped. I took it to the dealer and not only did they replace my pads to the new ones, Mazda authorized them to replce my rotors also. Since they were going all of that, I had them paint my calipers and rotor hubs. The honeymoon of no squeal lasted about 2 weeks and now its worse than before. I took it back last week to complain, the dealer contacted Mazda NA, but no solution is in sight. I bedded my brakes according to the link that is flying around in other brake squeal threads, so I'm at a loss on the next move.

Thanks for listening to me vent.

I had the same thing happen to me with my RX8 but my dealership changed all 4 brake pads and all 4 Rotors. Have never had a problem after that. But I would take it right right and let them fix it. Make sure they do the Brakes and Rotors this time. If they dont fix it within 3 attempts I know here in Maryland they have to give you a new RX8. Check out your Lemon Law. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...cs/04-006.html

But good luck with everything.

I had them replaced two months ago and the new modified pads put on. It was better for about 2 - 3 weeks and now is worse then it was before. The Mazda here called the corp office and they said they know about the problem but have no way to fix it yet. He told me that its not a hazard to drive it but I will just have to put up with the noise untill they come out with something new. It just makes me mad because you pay so much for a nice car and try to keep it up, but then you have a problem like this. Each time I stop at a light everyone turns and looks, but now its because of the noise im making.

Well--I took mine and they won't replace them because the pads are worn below 20% now (24,000miles) so I'm going to put on EBC redstuff pads this weekend. I hear they squeal less than Mazda pads and generate a helluva lot less dust.

What a difference new brakes make...

After a year and a half with squeeling front brakes, I finally took my car in for the front brake TSB--which my dealership knew nothing about, I'm glad I printed out the TSB from Rosenthal's website (http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ocs/index.html)--and let me tell you, it's a world of difference.

It was embarassing pulling up to a stop light with squeeling brakes as if I were driving some 15 year old junker. My 4-door sports car finally feels (sounds?) like it!!

If you haven't had your brakes replaced yet, GET ON IT!

How many miles did you put on your brakes before they started squealing? Just wondering cause I haven't experienced that (yet).

I kept thinking, squealing brakes? no way...

...

til about 4500 miles.

Let me tell you, I was at 5500 this week when I took it in, and I don't know if its the cold or the salt on the roads or what, but I sounded like a school bus trying to stop. TSB in hand, 3 hours later (had some other stuff checked out) and my 8 is back to being silent when stopping.

What all did they do for you on that TSB. Simply put in the pads? Please look at your paperwork.

Yeah, I'm at about 6300, and haven't had any problems yet. Just the rear view mirror and drivers door which I am getting fixed on Wednesday. That constant rattle is driving me nuts. I can no longer just turn up the stereo.
