Brake Issues/Noise/Heat

I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue recently (I saw some previous threads from a while back). My RX8 front brakes were replaced (rotors and pads) by the dealer in June 2007 when the car had around 38,000 miles on it. In September 2007, the brakes started making an obscene squeal that sounded like a bus stopping and emitted a very noticeable burning smell. Over two months I took it into the dealership but they were not able to duplicate the sound. Finally, in December 2007, I took it in and they duplicated the sound and provided full replacement of the rotors and pads. At that time my car had 40,600 miles on it. My car now has 41,300 miles on it and the brakes are making the same sound and emitting the same smell - 700 miles later. I took it back in and Mazda USA is unwilling to admit any fault on their part, stating that it is my driving habits that are the cause of the pads overheating which is causing them to crystallize and make noise. Therefore, they want to take my brand new rotors that have 700 miles on them, re-tool them and replace my brake pads solely at my cost because mazda USA won't take any responsibility.

Now, I have had my car since it had 24,000 miles on it (I bought it used). I drove the first 14,000 miles with nothing but a mild intermittent high pitched squeak - regular brake noise with nothing to be concerned about. It was not until they replaced the rotors and pads that the brakes began making noise. I have now had them replaced twice with the same result (the first was due to normal wear and tear). I have not changed my place of employment or where I live. I drive the same mileage today to and from work that I did 3 years ago when I bought the car and I do not drive it very much on the weekends. I am frustrated and at a loss on what to tell mazda since my driving habits must have changed drastically since I began driving over 19 years ago as I never had this problem on this car or any other that I have owned before. Interestinglly enough, I had a local brake service replace my rear brakes (rotors and pads) around the same time and have never had an issue with those.

I know that there is a TSB issued in 2006 which I am not sure if it is still applicable today. My dealership did not know of the bulletin.

HELP!!!!

Take your car to a power wash and wash them brakes out *after they cool down *
Then take your car home and put some anti brake squeel behind the pads where the metal anti rattle shelds are.
My brakes squeeled like mad on my old 8 and they still squeel on my new one. Just not as bad.
Good luck!

so you dont have an issue with dragging your breaks? you're not one of those idiots that you see constantly tapping their breaks while on the hwy.

how is the rolling resistance of your car? maybe your calipers are sticking. i only say this because its really hard to overheat the 8's breaks on the street and impossible to do it from normal driving. if you're constantly getting a burning smell from your breaks obviously something is wrong.
