Unhappy AT bounces when shifting and loud engine...

Forgive me if this has been covered or in the wrong area.

I am having an issue lately with my 05 AT. I am not sure if it is related to the 4206 recall a couple months ago or the colder weather setting in the Philly area.

Either way the car has a terriable shake and low groaning sound when it is at idle in D and especially R. I have read the TSB about the faulty engine mounts and will be getting them replaced tomorrow. Hopefully that will fix the rough idle.

The one other thing that is driving me really crazy is for the first 20-30 minutes of driving the car it seems to have no idea when to shift. The car will shift into 4th gear when I am going 20mph sometimes. Then it will downshift, then back up, sometimes from 4th to 2nd then quickly to 3rd. All the while it is doing all this shifting it bounces when going into gear. The same result you would have if going to slow in a higher gear on a MT before stalling.

After the car has been driving for about 30 minutes it gets better but is still there. Anyone have any experience with this in the AT? Like I said, I will be getting new mounts tomorrow and perhaps it is related. The dealership I take it to is somewhat useless. It took a call to Mazda NA just to get new mounts. The dealership told me they could not reproduce it the first time. When I got the car back the trip odo didn't even register .1 miles!

Sounded like my A/T till I said screw full Auto and I'm now using the sport a/t mode only. I got fed up with the odd shifting that the ECU was doing was so damn jerky all the time while driving in a city. The mounts might help but myself I still feel a slight vibration looking into possible cause's.

Oh and next time they tell you they cant reproduce a problem that to you is constant. Ask to talk to the Service Manager and ask him to go for a drive with you to show him what your talking about.

Did this happen to you before the recall too? I noticed it mainly after the recall, I am pushing 40k miles now too so am getting alittle concerned about the warrenty.

Felt it before but after the recall I noticed it a tad bit more BUT the timing of the recall was around when our weather up here in the NE started to get a bit colder (Oct). But I'll be honest I think the ECU portion that controls shifting in the Auto's isnt that smart.

have similar kind of bouncing feeling.. especially on 3rd gear when driving first few miles when wheather a bit cooler ... after warming up i.e after 5-10miles no problems.

But something odd, when it is cold i.e below -1C and the car is cold, not
driven warm enough, when stopping the car the gear is still in 2nd - not changing
to 1st at all

Just take it to the dealer and have them check it out. '05 should have warranty.
Unless you've put 60,000 miles on it.
When you say the engine is loud what do you mean?

A small update, I had the engine mounts replaced and it feels like a new car now! When in D or R at at stop there is no more shaking of the car like before and the engine noise is a lot less. before the mounts changed it sounded as if the engine was sitting in the interior. Everything was shaking. Funny, dealer tells me they could not replicate it too!

As far as the shifting, it still wants to shift early and I still get the bouncing shifting through the gears. It is worse when it is cold but I have it all the time at lower speeds. Every once in awhile I will do the 10 brake taps in a few seconds to clear the ECU, that seems to help the shift pattern the car uses but it only last a few days then it is back to the rapid shifting.

I think there is an error in the flash. Wonder if there is a correlation with the 6 speed AT and the 4 speed AT? Or is it that the transmission is just not warm enought. I had similiar issue with the Saturn SC back in 1991 when they were first out. That never was resolved either.
