Blown Engine?

ok heres the deal car now has 111,089 miles on it bought it with 79,xxx 2 years ago. clutch went out at about 109,xxx i put sr motorsports stage 2 clutch and light flywheel, also bought a brand new trans from my mazda dealer all togeather 3,000. mean while since i had the exhaust off i figure i put racingbeat cat delete pipe to go with the RB muf. i also put a short shifter and syncro saver since i have a new trans. long story short check engine light came on as is should for the cat delete. on day driving to school in baltimore i was at a trafic light idleing and statred hearing a tapping noise such as a valve tap on a piston engine. went to school fooled around and decided to check the cel 2 codes for cat eff and intake runner stuck open or something. figured it was normale went on with my life. emissions came up in oct and i put the cat back on and delted the code took it to mazda and noticed the car had rough idle hard cold start and very hard hot start. mazda told me it looks like a blown engine acorindg to there past cars with the same problem. ok sorry for the story

QUESTION: did the cat delete aid the the engine loosing compression due to all the high rev just to hear the back fire?

cat delete did NOT aid in the engine losing compression.

Have you done a compression test to verify the engine failure?

I heard if the intake valve stuck would cause hard starts.

no i took it to the dealer to do emissions and to see the hard start. it passed the emissions, but the mechanic told me that he is the factory train rx-8 guy strate from japan, and that with his expericence with this prob is its a blown engine. and he would save me 450 bucks. but if i wanted to take the risk and do the compression test i can. i rather keep the 450 and just spend 3 thousand for a new one. the old eng is leaking to much oil anyways.

Really? um strange. i did by the car used so it may have. most of the was dc club memebers rx8 have the same prob i dunno then. i found it coming out of the pan and the oil cooler lines to the block and the oil metering pump, intake housing behind the dipstick. all over the place fml.

on the other hand im leterly on my way to go buy a bmw for my beater car and take a shot at rebuilding the engine. this will be my first Rotary. so if i screw up which i will ill still be at step one and i plan on buyin a spare engine anyways so i say f it

Maybe he has the salt eating the oil lines issues. I dont know if DC is on the same boat as canada, and ohio. But they are pretty close to the ohio salt mines.
