well , recently i bought a manual one , didnt know that and i need a automatic one. i wanna know what the cheapest / best one's are cause all i can find are damn manual transmission ones. here is a comparison from the old one to the new one.

There may be a difference between the 04-08 and the 09+ models (?). But, there isn't a difference in the AT and MT cats.

the original o2 sensor on the original cat. is in a different position on my new one and it does not fit. it doesnt reach at all

They should be the same for all models. The companies that sell aftermarket cat pipes sell the same one for all RX8s. There is a good chance you were just given the wrong part. Also, if you bought a cheaper Autozone-style cat there is a good chance it will not last very long with all the extra heat.

nope i bought a expensive magna flow cat. i thought it was supposed to be the same too but you can see the pics. i just wanna know what the hell i should buy. the o2 sensor gets hung up on the oil pan and it wont connect the o2 sensor to the cat. it doesnt reach.

After seeing the pics, you may just have the wrong O2 sensor. If your old one was good, return the new one and put the old one in the new pipe.

they were both bad, i bought both of them brand new. my check engine light is on and it doesnt seem like it getting enough air and stalls. thats why i bought this because when we took it off. it looks like someone before us re welded it themselfs...

Not sure about the Magnaflow one, but I know the Mazda one is around $1300 for a reason. They put some expensive metals in there and they still melt down on occasion.

I don't know why I was included with that group. I wasn't trying to be "funny". I can only go by what you post.
Two things, first have you had the engine codes read? They will tell you if it's a cat/O2 sensor problem. Second, have you compared the honeycomb structure inside the cat. The old one if bad should look burned and clogged if it was bad.

Same for me^ ...I wasnt being funny or smart assed with my question. I seriously wanted to know. If I ever have to replace my CAT I will prob just eliminate it.

I admit that i was being a smart *** because I know for a FACT there is no difference between the oem cat of an MT and an AT for the series 1. Fact, because i've done this multiple times w/no problems. Old cats, new cats, gutted cats, aftermarket cats, racecats, long cats, nyan cats...

where did you buy the 'new' cat from? that secondary chamber doesn't look 'oem'.

The first couple of comments were hilarious.

I can see no visual difference between both of those cats, other than one being new and your oem cat looking like complete ****. If the guy that told you it doesn't fit because its not for automatic is installing it, then please go somewhere else. That guy knows nothing. Like everyone else said, they're both the same.

yeah the o2 sensor is welded differently on the oem and the magnaflow.

its no where near 1300 , unless im finding the ione you talking about.

yeah its a magna , and like i said the part where the o2 sensor fits in , it hits the pan underneath the car , it is not welded on the same angle as the oem if you can see it in the pictures

If the sensor itself is hitting things then I think you were just given some bad parts that need to be returned. I would also look into those codes as well. When a cat goes to crap there is usually something else that helped it along on these cars. It may be time to replace your ignition bits as well.

You should have just said from the start that the sensor was sticking out to much I could barely notice. Like mr_pieper said it seems like you were given some bad parts. Aftermarket cats don't work on our cars because they generate too much and the cat will eventually melt. Like others said, that's why the oem cat costs $1,300 it's made out of expensive materials and even then it sometimes still fails.

I think your best option would be trying to buy a used cat on the forums, they sell cheap and there is usually someone selling one.

Just because the manufacture said it fits, it does not mean so. **** happens and dont ask me how i know

Hate to feed the frenzy but placement of the forward O2 bung on mid pipes between the AT and MT is certainly different.

You run the risk of bumping into the A/T. I am NOT speaking of the stock cat O2 sensor though.

Sound like whoever installed his cat O2 bung missed the mark. It is a close fit already. I can only assume it came from magna flow with the bung prefit.
