Bad Cat / Bad Leading o2 Sensor - P0410?

Background;

2004 MT ~ 85k Miles.

New to me around 60, replaced the plugs & wires @ 75ish, not sure of the service history before, but do know thanks to Mazda NA that the coil rails were never changed @ any Mazda Dealership. . . My local dealership did run though a can of Zoom-Zoom Cleaner when I was there ~ 9,000 miles ago for stalling it out (it was covered under the first time flooding)

Situtation:

Past few days, and most noticibly this morning, loss of power has been evident, RX8 has been slugish, and will hang right @ 7500 or lower RPM depending on conditions (grade, engine load w/e) . . . I have seen mpg drop slightly ~ 17mpg from around 20-22 (when not wankeling)

I'm thinking that it's time to replace the coils & plugs. Today I limped home from work and noticed that the engine fan stayed on (much longer than it should have - I'm assuming I was way over temped due to seeing how hard I could push it & where she would get sluggish)

I got the Coils in (finally - a solid 7 day wait while the 8 sat waiting) and installed them yesterday. Still remained sluggish ~ 6500RPM (however there is a noticeable difference in power - see pictures for old coils)

Swapped out for a new set of Plugs & Wires
Still sluggish, No CEL

Replaced Airfilter (needed to anyways - refer to pictures)
Still sluggish, No CEL

Cleaned, cleaned cleaned the MAF. Took it out again, still no improvement.

I got the car to cough out a DTC P0410! I went for a drive with the datalogger & laptop hooked up, and I got a pending check code.

According to a document I have:

P0410 AIR system problem ON 2 AIR system (See DTC P0410 )

The PCM monitors the front H02S output current when the AIR control is operating. If the output current is more than the specification, the PCM determines that there is an AIR system problem.

So does this make sense for the symptoms I'm seeing? Should I just swap out the O2 sensors?

My process of elimination for this is;
Coils <- done
Plugs & Wires <- done
MAF Cleaned <- done

O2 Sensors
Cat
Fuel Pump
Compression Test

How does one test the last four without just swapping them out?

Again any help would be appericated.

P0410 is related to the data variance in the front O2 sensor and the rear O2 sensor. It could be the air pump. But more than likely with the symptoms you're having it's a bad Cat. The cat is warrantied for 80,000 miles.

perform this test,it may help..DTC P0410
AIR system problem

DETECTION CONDITION
•The PCM monitors the front HO2S output current when the AIR control is operating. If the output current is less than the specification, the PCM determines that there is an AIR system problem.

Diagnostic support note
•This is an intermittent monitor (AIR system).

•The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.

•PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.

•FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.

•The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•AIR system malfunction

•PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP
INSPECTION
ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA AND DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS HAVE BEEN RECORDED
•Have FREEZE FRAME DATA and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS (Air system related) been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.

No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS on the repair order, then go to the next step.

2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•Verify related Service Bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability.

•Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.

•If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.

No
Go to the next step.

3
VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE OR STORED DTC
•Turn the ignition switch off, then to the ON position (Engine off).

•Verify the related PENDING CODE or stored DTCs.

•Are other DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the appropriate DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE.)

No
Go to the next step.

4
IDENTIFY TRIGGER DTC FOR FREEZE FRAME DATA
•Is DTC P0410 on FREEZE FRAME DATA?
Yes
Go to the next step.

No
Go to the FREEZE FRAME DATA DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE.)

5
INSPECT AIR SYSTEM OPERATION
•Perform the “AIR System Inspection”.

(See Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Inspection.)

•Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

Then go to the next step.

No
Go to the next step.

6
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0410 COMPLETED
•Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.

•Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.

•Leave the vehicle in a place that is at a temperature of approx. 25 °C {77 °F} for more than 6 hours.

•Start the engine.

•Verify the SAIR_EVAL PID to Yes.

■If not, leave the vehicle again.

•Is the PENDING CODE same as the DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.

(See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No
Go to the next step.

7
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•Perform the “AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE”.

(See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE.)

•Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE.)

No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
