AudioLink MP3 adaptor not working?

I have the AudioLink MP3 adaptor that worked great for several years. Recently it stopped working, but I'm not sure if it is the head unit, the adaptor or something else. I am looking for some diagnostic help before I take the console apart.

- I am not able to select the EX mode (pressing the CD button twice doesn't work)
- The revision of the head unit firmware is 9.82 (but as noted the AudioLink adaptor worked fine previously)
- The iPod is still getting charged, so the cable is still connected.

A question that comes to mind: Do I need to enable the auxillary input on the head unit (in my memory I just plugged in the cable)? And what makes it possible to select the EX mode (does the head unit autosense the adaptor)?

Thanks for your help!
