Any auto electricians out there ? help please !
Have been trying to fix the boot release on one of my rx8s . So far iv'e done this :
*swapped in an entire working mechanism (tested good with battery )
*Checked that voltage gets to plug connector in boot (trunk) when button under dash is pushed.
*checked that ground wire at plug has path to ground (with ohmmeter)
Can't think what else to check , any suggestions welcome .

Did you check the switch itself? Press and look for continuity, as it is a momentary switch.
If it works with the remote it's the in the connection somewhere, button, power wire or ground. Ground might be fine if it opens with the remote, wire should also be ok as it gets power, then the last would be the switch itself or it's connection.

I don't have a remote for the car so can't check if that does anything different . Only way into the boot is with the key - that does work .

Take the relay out and test it just to be sure, that's a N/O relay

Brett, would you consider connecting the known working latch to the electrical connector but NOT actually securing it to the chassis (let it hang free) and see if the latch fully actuates when the button is pressed? Maybe even install an ammeter to check the load of the latch on the circuit? Voltage is one thing, but current draw is another. Just an idea......

You may be getting 12v there, but if the internals are shot, the relay will not work.

Took out the relay yesterday and while i was fiddling with it the boot release activated a few times ...so pretty sure that's the issue . Haven't got a new one yet but man that bitch was hard to get out !
