Another Misfire Fix Thread
Posting another story about misfire and how it was fixed. Here's the tale:
Took my 03 build MT GT out of winter storage and put new plugs in it as always. Torqued each to about 15 ft lbs, also as per normal. Car running great for about 1500 miles (can still get to top speed of 136mph on a flat straightaway even with 105,000 on the clock ). Then, I start feeling an occasional misfire.
Don't think much about it, write it off to bad gasoline as my Ultraguage is not picking up any misfire codes and I'm not getting a CEL.
Go through several tanks of gas from different stations, misfire persists but still not enough to trip a code. So I decide to pull the new plugs to have a look at them and see if they can tell me anything about the quality of the combustion process.
When I go to remove the plugs I find only slight resistance on the ratchet, much less than I expected based on past spark plug removals. Especially noticeable on the L & T plugs on the rear rotor. Visual inpsection of the firing surfaces shows nothing abnormal, in fact they look great (as an almost brand new plug should), but I notice some brownish discoloration on the threads of the plugs from the rear rotor. Put 1+1 together and come to an assumption that the plugs must have worked themselves lose with heating/cooling cycles, especially as cooler spring weather here in NH yielded to hotter summer temps.
Clean and reinstall the plugs, torque to a little over 15 ft lbs (as this is the second time I'm applying fitment pressure to the washers). Low & behold - no misfires!!!
Moral of the story, just one more thing to check if your starting to feel slight misfiring on your RX8.
