Airbag Warning Light

The family and I (less the dog) went to the beach today to try the beat heat. For some reason I insisted my wife drive (?). Anyway we were cruising along the coast highway and I look over and see a red light in the instrument cluster. I asked the wife how long that has been on and of course she had not noticed it (she really hates driving the car and was sure she had done something to cause the malfunction). I cycled the ignition a few times at the beach to no avail and it stayed on all the way home. I was sure something I had done had triggered the light but other than loading the kids in the back seats and the cooler and sand toys in the trunk I could think of nothing except - - putting the wifes cell phone and the camera in the glove box. I opened the glove box and wiggled any wires that could possibly have been touched. I restarted the car and no more light. Tomorrow I'm going to drop the box and see if this is a wiring problem or something that may have come loose from the air bag recall. The wires I wiggled were yellow and I suspect they connect to the passenger side airbag. I did a search on the forum and couldn't find any similar occurances but I've become used to having unique issues With the exception of this one anomaly we had a great day at the beach and having the 8 to drive there and back made the day even better.

She's not the sports car type (Smith driving methods - Use to drive truck) but she's slowing coming around. This weekend we worked on exceeding the posted speed recomendation on the corners

Hopefully it's a none issue, before you take your long cruise to 7 stock...

Had a similar issue, air bag light about two weeks after the recall. It would actually flash a code at start up 2 flashes pause 3 flashes long pause repeated the flash sequence a few times before staying on for good. Checked the service manual and I think the 2-3 was for the code 2C something about the right side air bag wiring. I reset the ECM using the brake tap thing and the light went out. Has not returned since. I cleared all the historic codes when I did the reset so they could not verify the issue when I brought it in. Talked to the dealer RX8 service guy, he suggested that I may be causing it when I slide the passenger seat all the way forward and let the kids climb in the back. Several of the connectors are somewhat exposed to careless little feet when the seat is all the way forward. Now I make them suffer with the seat only 1/2 way up.

I think its all good. The On-board Diagnostic system is pretty cool. When the air bag light flashes it is actually sending a code telling you where the malfunction is located. In my case I think it was 4 flashes - pause - 4 flashes eventually going to a solid light. This translates to passenger side air bag sensor (communication error). When I was playing with the wiring above the glove box I thought I heard a click as I touched one connector. Since the malfunction has not returned I'll have to assume the connector was not completely engaged.

My AirBag light came on last week. I brought the car in and they replaced some seatbelt sensor and a tensioner. Today the light came back on. So the car will go in tomorrow again.

Mine just came on yesterday, at least that is when I noticed it. I am not going to try the brake tap thing so I don't reset the system--glad you mentioned that. I have done absolutely nothing to the car to cause a problem like this so I will take it in tomorrow.

I didn't look at the blink codes; from what I could tell it was solid red. I will post the fix action when I get it back.

Just got my rx8 bout a week ago and I love it. Only thing is the light. When I turn the car on it flashes twice, short pause, twice more, long pause. This happens five times then stays illuminated. Any suggestions?

Try the connections under BOTH seats. Under each seat there is a yellow & and a white wire connector / harness. Unplug them all then plug them back in. Every time an airbag light has popped up on me that fixed it.

I've got an intermittent airbag sensor light coming on. I have not noticed any flashing when it comes on but will check next time I get the chance.

Anyone have a list of where all the connections are to check? I see the two under the seats.

Additionally, My code seems to be 2 flashes, pause, 3 flashes.

Anyone know where we can see a table of codes? I've got an AP so I might try to pull diag codes this evening.

Having an Airbag light flashing problem too. I know what the code is (34), I have done everything under the sun. But this light is still on! From what the code said its the B1881 34
12 Passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt circuit resistance high (See DTC B1881, B1882, B1883, B1886.)
B1882 Passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt circuit short to power supply
B1883 Passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt circuit short to body ground
So If anyone has any information on this problem, I would be very thankful. Peace

The answer might be what expo1 said...

VA Airbag / Seatbelt Tensioner Warning Light Staying On

The airbag / seatbelt tensioner warning light on the instrument panel is constantly lit up now. One of the previous posts suggested going to the passenger's side, get in, buckle-up, adjust the seat, then get out, return to the drivers seat and do the same thing. Then turn the car off and back on...... You never said whether or not this worked for you. I am having the exact same problem and surely can't afford 100's of dollars for something this simple. Does this solve the problem? Anybody know if his proposed fix worked?

Thanks a million! :-)

Happy Motoring Folks!

Is there a permanent fix for this airbag issue? I know unplugging and plugging them back is not hard, but doing it once every week is pretty annoying.
