air intake problem

a pod filter is a aftermarket intake like a k and n filter. in newzealand we call them pod filters i guess because of there shape..
so what i done was cut the top airbox off at the end of the 90mm tube put a 3.5" to 3.0" reducer over the pipe and the intake on that.

How many screens did you remove from the entire intake track?
You need to have at least one and usually on the filter side of the MAF.
You are probably getting disturbed airflow.
Reducing wasn't good either, but not sure if that would cause it.
Also, the intaks length was tuned by Mazda, so not sure how finicky that would be.
Get a screen in there and then do a reset via the twenty brake pedal stomp. (Do a search if unsure what that is).
Very clean car for a 2003..................looks sweet!

And there is a metric **** tonne of threads on that and the pros and cons of after market intakes.
FWIW I think the stock air box would give you better performance than that setup ..... your setup is going to be sucking in all the hot engine bay air.
I know you didn't ask ... but there it is ....
Car looks in great shape for an 03 .. Cheers

Wow..............I didn't even notice that! Guess I wasn't looking that close huh?
It was 7:30am when I wrote my original post below and was on my first cup of coffee. And yes, WCS is right about hot engine bay air, and eveyone else for stock being very, very close to best.................but I was more focused on the issue at hand.

i cant see how a mesh screen can change things. the reason i put the reducer on is because intake filters only have a 3.0" outlet and the intake for the rx8 is 3.5.
as for the ribbins, it was used for a weding car

3) go back to stock or get the AEM or Mazdaspeed CAI ONLY

^......ha ha, oh dear lord..........that was a good one!
George...............really only one screen is required, not two. It does depend on the location of said screen though.
To j-wreaka.........honestly mate, I do like the way it looks overall, but it isn't for this car.
You don't have to take our word for it, just do some searches on this site and others and you most likely reach the same conclusion.

well i got one of the mesh screens out of the air box and after alot of stuffing around got it in. after 5mim of driving cel went out and car is going really well. as for performance wise i didnt really put it on for performance as a rx8 is a pretty dam slow car. just liked the sound of the intake.
