Hi guys,

I was just wondering how everyone's RX8 idles?..

while driving mine it feels great but when idling I do get a lil vibration on the gear **** and feel it on my seat..

Is this normal?

My garage said the engine mounts are OK and nothings wrong but I'd like to hear what you guys have experienced>>

You will get vibration in the shift **** on manual transmissions because the shifter is directly linked to the tranny. If you actually take off the console around the shift **** and look down, you will see the transmission case. Perfectly normal

I started to get worried.. how about on the bottom of my seat? its not a lot just a lil tremble??

well you will feel some minor vibrations through the chassis, a little tremble is normal. It shouldn't be an uncomfortable vibration through your seat though.

Got the same vibrations. Idles fine at like 950 all the time. Your good bud.

does the vibration go away some or get worse when you turn the fan on or use the A/C?

I don't know about anyone else, but my car has virtually no vibration or shake when idling in neutral. Very smooth.... Automatics might display a little vibration when in gear, due to the drag from the torque converter.

I don't know. I test drove many used ones and a couple of new ones before I settled on my '09 with 1000 miles on it. They all idled pretty much the same - like any normal smooth engine.

Pete alot of guys here say the rotary engine idles rough but drives like its running on whipped cream.. Maybe this only applies to pre-facelift models?

mines a 2005, its had all the recalls carried out also.. so now i'm concerned that theirs something wrong with my lovely 8..

My '04 has a very minor vibration when idling at around 850-900 (after fully warmed), but nothing that would concern me. It's no worse than my old mustang used to do.

If your idle was jumping up and down or your car was occassionally stalling I would be concerned, otherwise, I think you're fine.

I always had some vibration and kicks. I finally started using premix with every tank/every other tank and my engine smoothed right out. Definitely a noticable difference with the engine when premix is running through its veins.

you could also try cleaning your MAF sensor. Very easy to do

Rotary's were never meant to idle.

Premix worked for me.

Well, regardless of what the mechanic says, I would still suspect motor mounts beginning to perish, especially ones that are 6 years old. There have been many posts about this kind of vibration where motor mounts cured it. They aren't very difficult to replace.

I've just booked it into another Mazda dealer, hopefully they don't try rip me another hole and instead actually fix my car.. I hope it is the mounts.. but the cars only done 27k..

I get vibrations through the seat at times, and the motor usually bogs down a bit when the A/C engages. Nothing violent, but you can tell. I noticed a big improvement in smoothness when I had the idle increased to 900rpm when I was getting the car tuned (Accessport), so if there's not a problem that's another option in addition to premix.
