Installed my AFE shifter today and all went well. But, i can't go into reverse. When pushing down on the shifter it will not go low enough to go under the reverse lockout tab on the plate that holds the shifter down.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Should my shifter have come with a different plate with a higher "reverse lockout plate"?

I may just put some washers under mine and make a new gasket but that seems kind of bootleg.

DON'T put washers in there!
I remember some of the first couple of batches of shifters needed some slight trimming off the side tab. (and I mean VERY little)

Give Richard Paul a call and I'm sure he'll either send you a replacement or offer some advice on getting it to work properly.

yea, mine could be an early one. i bought it second hand but i don think it was ever installed.

its SO close to being fine, the tab may just need to be ground down a bit.

exactly, it needs to be ground down EVER so slightly. When I got mine over a year ago, Richard filed it down a tab before installing it. (I went to his shop to pick it up)

mine had the same problem. resolved by filing down the top of the lockout tab by hand. file a little, test it out, file a little....etc....
