AEM Intake issue

I recently ordered and installed an AEM intake. I am currently getting a kind of stutter at 4500-5200 RPMs. I have searched the forums and follwed all the advice I have read about. After 2 days I am throughly frustrated lol. What I have done.

-screens installed and properly aligned
-MAF installed and cleaned properly
-Nipple under the manifold capped off
-reset the ECU
-checked all hose clamps to make sure they were tighted and secure.

Any advice or something I may have missed is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

How did you reset the ecu?

Also, is the stutter completely new? Or are you just noticing it because of the install?

Hmmmm. How did you reset the ECU? Was it running fine before you installed the AEM?

As far as I can tell stutter is new. car ran fine before the install. ECU reset was done using brake pedal method as I was advised.

That's the right procedure. Try searching for a vacuum leak, I bet the problem was there already, you are just now realizing it. Get some carb spray, spray around while the engine is running, if the idle stumbles when you spray then the have a leak.

Well after searching around for a vacuum leak and not finding one, I am not sure even where to go from here. You guys have been a great help and I do appreciate the help. At this point I am frustrated beyond belief. The issue seems to be getting more random now, Always happens at the same RPMs just not everytime. I'm torn between going back to stock, which may not fix the issue or takin it to a shop.

take apart your intake and fix the screens. Chances are they are dislodged and have to fix it and re secure it. I had that problem about 3 times after i installed my intake.

I've checked em before, but since you had to readjust em multiple times I'll go at em again. Any idea how they keep getting dislodged? I really hope this works lol. Thanks.

well thats the thing. You think you checked them but sometimes if theyre not secure and you red line they wiill move. You cant see the screen so you dont knkow. Even if it slides a bit it will mess your rpms, i was amazed myself how something so small can throw an cel and mess rpms.

Just wanna say thank you to everyone who has offered help. I tore it apart again and again the screens were out of place. I am kinda lost as to how these things keep getting knocked out of place. If it happens again I am pretty much done with it at that point as its just not worth the hassle lol. Kinda makes me wonder about the quality in general of the product too.

Well, K&N bought AEM, and the quality of the newer AEM intakes have fallen drastically. There is a big difference in the piping alone and the newer models paint is marginal at best. I got compare my old version to a new one recently and even though Charles at BHR had mentioned this to me previously I was still surprised. The "polished" version is now painted.

I don't blame you guys there. It's sad how that happens. I do not hold anything against you guys for the quality of AEM, like you said your not the manufacturer. My odering experience was great TBH and I will be ordering more parts from you guys in the future. Sadly if these screens pop out again I am not sure at this point what intake to go with. I understand the gains from intake are minimal, but cumulative gains add up in the end.

I honestly didn't think to contact you. I figured it was an installation issue or something in that area and did not want to bother you guys with it. I'm pretty sure I've gotten it fixed at this point, but have not had the chance to get the car up over 80ish to see if it still has the same issue.

^ glad it worked out. I told you lol. I havent had that problem in a while now (knock on wood). Just make sure the screens are really secure when reinstalling it and you should be gone. I find it usually gets shifted when you redline. Mine hasnt caused a problem since i reinstalled and secured everything tightly (knock on wood again lol)
