Angry Acceleration Problem

I got an 04 RX-8 in the beginning of spring. I've never had a rotary before so i assumed from what i heard what i was driving was normal. I've come to realize that the acceleration is most likely slower than other RX-8's. Recently the car will sort of have a gap in power at about 3k rpm's and will not go past 6.5k rpm's. If i try to take a fast start from a stop, when the clutch catches it will lose power. I need help! If i take it to any specialist it'll cost just to look at. Can someone help me figure out what the problem could be before i spend money i don't have?

First off, we need more info on your car (year/mileage/mods/any maintenance history/etc). First thing you should check are the plugs and coils. If damaged, you can order some for pretty cheap from mazmart.com.
You should also check your cat converter. If you're under 80k miles and 8 years, it can be replaced under warranty.

Now, I'd recommend searching for your questions before making a new thread. RX8 club has been around longer than the 8 has been in production, and tons of questions answered! The most effective way to search is by clicking the google link in my sig.

Good luck

It's an 04 manual with just under 70,000 miles. It's all stock and I've done an oil change on it about 1,000 miles ago. It's had the recall fixed. That's all my knowledge of the car. I'm in Milwaukee, WI.

I've looked around and the closest thing i can find is the clogged cats. i just want to make sure.

it could be a number of things:
plugs
coils
cat converter
ssv
etc.

If you thing you know, then do your own diagnostic. Figure out what's wrong, and report back.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the CEL was on for the O2 Sensors. But I have a video here. Is there anyone in the Milwaukee area that could help me? I feel like it wasn't running as good as it should have been when i got it so i would really enjoy a ride in one that's actually working good

warranty doesnt start at date of manufacture but at date of original consumer purchase. when was it first sold? for instance i picked mine 8 years and about 1 week ago, the warranty on the cat is still in effect.

Exactly who with Mazda did you check with?
Did you call the 1800 customer service number, or did you just ask your local dealer, who might be one of those really bad places that are commonly referred to as stealerships?

BC.

ahhh well i checked with the dealer and thats what they told me. In hindsight i see what i should have done. I gutted the cat for now. I'm looking to get the rp supercat tho. No problems accelerating though. I actually feel like it drives better than when i purchased it. I can not deal with the smell though.
