Unhappy AC causes rough idling and knocking noise?

Hi guys. i have a 2005 AT rx8 with 82k miles on it. the car runs flawlessly without the AC on. When it is idling with it on, it is very rough and sometimes dies. There is also a loud knocking noise you can hear from inside the car. As soon as i turn the ac off, all these issues go away. While driving with the ac on it runs fine. its just when i stop and idle that it is messing up. any ideas on what this could be?

Sounds like the compressor is going out; have it checked out. Check your motor mounts too.
