ABS Light and DSC Light On At Same Time...

I was driving home from work and the ABS and the DSC? lights both came on and stayed lit. I tried turning the car off to see if they would clear but they didn't. I also noticed the brake pedal thumped against my foot slightly when I turned the ignition. I tried it again and noticed it did this thumping as soon as I turned the key before I even turned the whole way to crank the engine. I already have an appointment for a flash on Saturday and the dealer said it would be ok to drive until then. Anyone ( SNAP-ON ) have any idea what this might be? It brakes normally once the car is started.

While the ignition on the "on" position (not the car) try turning the steering wheel all the way left then all the way right.

Well, the reason both of the lights are on is that DSC uses the ABS system to stabilize the car. Obviously your car thinks that the ABS system is not working. My Wife's VW had the ABS light stick on when she was braking in the snow, I think I googled for and found an indication that one of her ABS sensors was likely blocked/broken. After a day of driving (we had it booked in for a monday) it went away.

Probably ok to drive, but the ABS and DSC systems should be treated as being off.

CZR - I tried but it didn't clear anything. It was difficult to do without the power steering on but I did it. Still felt the rather pronounced " thud " against my foot. It actually makes " thud" a noise when it does this. Almost feels like when your ABS engages when you are on snow. That thump thump thump pulse against the brake only this is just one pulse before it acts normal again.

Worth a shot. I did that to reset my dsc light. Wasn't sure it would work with the abs light also on.

My car did that when I got stuck in the ice and snow earlier this winter (the ABS and DSC light). It drove ok, and after driving for awhile, the lights went away and the DSC and ABS work fine. My only conclusion was that the computer got "confused", and when I drove it, it reset itself. I also remember stalling several times, and my steering wheel was turned all the way one direction, so that could have upset things.
Every 12th start or so, the steering mechanism recalibrates itself (or something like that. I just remember reading something about every 12th start). For that reason, I always make sure my car is parked with the wheels facing as straight as I can get them. I suppose if your car isn't parked with the wheels straight and you're on that 12th start, it may mess things up for awhile. Someone correct me if I'm just having an LSD flashback.

That one "thud" is totally normal. That is the ABS checking itself. Read about that in your manual.

Now that I think about it the light did come on when I was pulling out of a parking space and I did stall it right before pulling out. You just may be correct Lucas ET !!! I'll have the dealer check it Saturday but til then I'll just drive as usual.

Thanks!

If it doesn't clear its self up in a few drives, I would check the fuses. While I was messing with fuses and pulled the DSC both lights came on and stayed on.
