ABS Light comes on

I need some help please. My ABS light and traction light comes on when I push the brake pedal hardish. If I press the pedal softly I dont have a problem. Once I switch the car off and restart it after awhile the fault has cleared but even if I dont pull off- just while the car is idling and I push the brake hard the lights come on. Im am not sure if anyone can.

ABS/Tranction lights

Hello,

I myself am having this same issue. This just started happening when I replaced my battery terminals. I thought it had to do with the calibration of the traction system but I have done so and still happens. I think this may be a PCM Mazda thing. You may want to call Mazda and see what they say or a someone that is very savy with these cars and has the proper equipment to reset the car's computer.

Yes ^^^ start by topping up the brake fluid. I've had the ABS light act up on me and all it needed was a little fluid.

Question ABS light.

My 8 is a 2004 (MT), With 69,700 miles. Don't think the it has to do with the brake fluid as this all started after changing my battery terminals. I intially did not calibrate the traction control system but I did go back and pulled one of the battery terminal wires off and let the vehicle reset and calibrated the vehicle. Not sure if I'm missing something in that regard?? I keep reading about the PCM Flash setting and I'm starting to think it may have something to do with that but it is not listed any place in my owners manual. Hopefully I will get this resolved today as the car is going to Mazda for a battery replacement as the old one is dying and this is under warranty.

Thanks!!

Sal N.

Just curious, are you guys both running on stock rims/tires? Different suspension set-ups, staggered rims/tires, etc can cause funky traction control behavior from time to time. No idea why it would come on when pressing the brakes hard at idle, other than the above mentioned reasons.

My Rx8 is a 2006 model with about 45000miles on it. So far I have replaced the left front bearing assembly and ABS cable. The car took a knock on the left front and broke the lower control arm rear mounting but everything else was fine. Since I replaced the lower control arm I have had the fault. What makes me confused the most is that even when the car is not moving and I push the brake the ABS and traction light comes on. The only problem with taking the car to the local Mazda guys is that they are useless. I would rather travel 150miles to a descent dealership if i have to.

Andy,
That is odd that the light comes on after that, but at least it is clear what caused the problem. I'd say you'r only option is to take it to a trusted mechanic or the good dealer 150 miles away. Maybe someone else more knowledgeable about your problem will be able to guide you through a fix though.

Good luck man!

Thanks for all the advise. I have a spare abs module so I might just try swopping that out first and at a last resort i will take a drive. I wish the car was as simply as my 82 Rx7.
Cheers!

Ok guys after many months of headaches I have finally fixed the problem. I tried changing the ABS module, I took the fuse box apart and checked the wiring, I check all sensors and plugs and then finally I took the trunk apart and found a cable pinched new the boot lock which was shorting down to earth and now my 8 is fixed. No thanks to the agents!
