Hey guys. I have a 2007 RX-8 sport with a 6 speed manual. My 6th gear has been making a very faint buzzing noise, almost sounds like a ringing bell from under the shifter whenever the car is in 6th gear and rolling at any speed.

The clutch does not have to be engaged for this buzzing noise to occur, but it does get a bit louder when I engage the clutch. It also gets louder the faster I'm driving and becomes most noticeable on the highway at speeds above 60 mph.

I do a lot of highway driving so this concerns me a lot. I'm not having any trouble shifting into the gear, but the noise does appear to be getting worse and it's only been happening for 2 days. All other gears seem to be fine.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this in 6th? I'm going to avoid using 6th for the time being until I can figure this out and get it fixed.

 

Forgot to mention, the car is totally stock and has 47k miles.

 

As far as 6 gear problems, my manual has started to "jump" out of gear sometimes. Its been manageable so far because when I'm in sixth I gently keep my hand on the shifter. No noises so far either. I thought I was not shifting completely into gear, NOT the case. Somethings up. I'm running Amsoil tranny & gear oil in the the diff.

 

Also I have a 2005 with about 75,000 on it and its never been raced.
