6th gear grind

I have a 2005 GT 6sp with 38k miles.

Lets say I redline the car through 3rd or 4th gear, then I want to start slowing down to a cruise and I go to put it straight into 6th gear. When I shift into 6th I get a horrible grind before it goes into place. I know I am not going to for over(towards reverse), and I am not pushing down on the shifter (as in to put it into reverse.) If I go into 5th and then 6th this problem does not happen. Any ideas?

Search around for threads on grinding. You will find that many of us have had these problems in the past. Some have fixed the problem by simply using different tranny fluids and some have had to have their tranny rebuilt like myself.

I had grinding with the third and fourth gear. Took it to Mazda and they found that my synchros were busted. Replaced the synchros and the bearings and it runs perfect now.

My ONLY problem with changing fluid is that sometimes the type of fluid can cover up a potentially damaging problem. It may seem ok at first...but another 10k miles and its the same thing again ya know?

Your in warranty though...so go tell them!
