6 speed problem. Felt like something hit me from the back.

I was not able to find similar threads and I am hoping someone can help me.

Yesterday, my 3 weeks old baby with 1000 miles got sick. I was stuck in traffic for good 30-40 Min. I must have done maybe 1/2 mile during that time. The car probably moved 5 feet before I pressed the clutch to move the gear from 1st to netural. All of sudden, I felt a huge jerking motion as if someone rear ended me. I immediately looked down at the gauges after seeing that the rear car was not even close to my rear. The RPM was slowly coming down from around 1500. Since this incident, I am having following problems.

1, 2, 3rd gear is whining, grinding and rattling. Rattling noise can be also heard in 4th gear. Sometimes, I have to slighly force the gear in and one time, I was not able to put in to the 2nd gear.

Clutch no longer grabs when releasing it to get the car in motion. Before, I was able to at least slowly depress the clutch and somewhere before it got to 1/2 way, clutch grabbs the gear. Now it grabs the gear way after 1/2 way. Also, clutch and gas action became a problem. I have to press the gas paddle more or car will stall.

I also noticed something from the rear is moving around. When coming to a full stop, it feels and sounds as if somehting in the trunk is moving around. I have already emptied out the trunk, made sure the spare tire is tightly secured and the noise still exists.

Lastly, I've been parking the car in the same spot in the drive way but last night, the bottom of the car it the ground. There is what I can best describe as road bumps on the way to the parking space. I've not done anything unusal but shortly right after the front tires went over the bump, I felt the bottom of the car landing on the road bump.

Can all these symptoms be caused by the initial jerking motion? Is there something I should do, not do or look for before next Tuesday(dealer appointment).

Thank you in advance,
Nedor

why - many of us have 10s of thousands of miles with no gear box issues. why would one at 1000 be somethign to worry about?

Was this a new car, dealer car, or a previous owned car?

This was a new car. Only 3 weeks old.

I drove stick for 4 years and since this is my first "new" car, I've been following the owner's manual like a bible. I have never done a clutch drop except one time, tire spun a bit in snow. My wife goes off on me all the time because I put more time and caring towards my 8. If the dealer says I need new transmission or major replacement, do I have the right to ask them to replace with a new 8?

warranty work, fret not. Sucks to be without your car so soon though.

I was told by the saleman that it should be around 20. There was no way to check it at that time because the key was not available. When I picked up the car drove off, I noticed it has just over 70 miles on it.

I live in NY. I am afraid what may happen to me that happened to my 97 Mountaineer. Around 20k, engine was sucking up so much oil, the dealer had to replace the engine under warranty. Ever since, the truck was idling very badly, loud muffler noise, fan belt makes very annoying squeeking noise when it is humid or rains.

I am very concerned that major replacement like the transmission may not be as good as originally factory installed/assembled line ones. I am in the long run with my 8 and I would expect the best out of it.

I apologize if I sound like a little kid with a brand new big boy's toy.

Thanks for your inputs on this matter.

Sound likes your car was taken out for a beatin.. err I mean test drive... The only way you could ever hope to get a new 8 is if you somehow sued on the grounds that you thought you were being sold a new car and not one that had been used. In this way, the dealer would have lied to you and would have to either give you a new 8 or compensate you for the difference in value which, assuming the unlikely event that you actually won, would be what they would do.

whats the right of return for a car in NY nowadays? check the lemon law of coure. you coul dask for a buy back or swap to a lower mileage car.

but let them find out what exactly broke first

btw you know your rx-8 "sucked oil" from day one, right?

Aye, so far it ate up exactly one bottle at 1000 miles.

Mine uses about 1/2 bottle every 1500 miles to give you an idea. It might have used more when it was new but that was awhile ago and I forget.
