2nd gear grind (my dealership battle)
Hey fellow Rotarians,
So I've got a 2005 RX-8 6spd, I purchased it a month ago. In general I'm loving it however a few days ago, I started to get the dreaded 2nd gear grind. What exactly is happening is my gearbox is grinding ridiculously loud when shift from 1st to 2nd gear above 7000RPMs or I downshift from 3rd gear to 2nd gear around 3800-4000RPMs.
I bought the car used with about 58k miles from a local Nissan dealership (probably a mistake). They provide a 60 day warranty with every used car so I thought I'd be in the clear. I left my car there all day, and an hour ago they called me to say they could not get it to grind. I had to drive all the way back to the dealer to make it grind for them, and when I did I got these two responses:
1. "You are downshifting at too high an RPM."
To me, this is bull ****. I can downshift from 4000RPMs in any other gear with absolutely no grind.
2. "You should bring it to the Mazda dealer."
Alright, fine. They will at least know how to fix their own car. However, I should not have to pay for it because I'm still under warranty from the Nissan dealer.
The guy at the service dept at the Nissan dealer assured me that I'd be fine with the payment but I'm upset that I have to go another day purposely grinding gears so that everyone feels comfortable fixing it.
I'm also wondering what some of you other peeps experiences have been with this problem when you took it to the Mazda dealer. I've read other posts and I know that I am not the first to encounter this issue.
Thanks
