2 problems. Oil light and cd changer
Hey.
I have an 04 plate rx8 231 bhp 37,200 miles.
1st problem - Guaranteed when i start the car up the oil light comes on.. and after 5 mins of driving it goes off. Took it to leeds the weekend and it would come on now and again whilst driving then go off.
I have checked the dipstick but its got that annoying throffy stuff (apparntly read that this is normal when theres condensation there?) so its hard to tell the actual level, but seems ok. It is deffo due for a service as it was last done in sept 07 in which was the major service i.e spark plugs etc. .
so i guess what im asking is.. is this normal? how do i stop the check oil light coming on and off all the time?
THE 2ND PROBLEM HAS NOW BEEN FIXED.

With the oil light: the '04s have a TSB for a redesigned oil pan. The stock oil pan can throw a low oil warning after some highway driving. When I bought my car about a year ago it did this and I was quite alarmed. Just confirm when the car is cold that you do in fact have enough oil.
You can get the TSB performed if you want to pay for the new oil pan, or just live with it. When mine came on I would drop the revs and slow down and it would just go off (for about 20 minutes until it came back on)
As to the oil light at idle. I don't think that is related to the oil pan and could be a different problem. What oil are you using? Perhaps its too cold/thick at start up and the engine reads it as low oil until it start moving.
Anyway, the oil light on the interstate is really nothing to worry about - as long as you're checking your oil frequently.

Now that you come to mention it, it may actually make sense now. I havent used any high quality oil as just kept the small bottle that the previous owner had. This was from Halfords as in there own brand.
What would be recommended.. ? could this be why it does it then?
yea it dont effect the performance at all and seems ok when i check it..just to confirm the white throffy stuff on teh dipstick is not anything to worry about is it?there no oil mixed with the coolant.

well... there is a great debate on here on which oil to use. Search and I'm sure you'll find it.
I won't try to convince you one way or the other - its best just to read and decide for yourself based on the arguments people make.
I use 5W-30 Royal Purple.
I will say that it is commonly agreed upon that 5W-20 isn't enough protection and Mazda US just did that to slightly improve MPG.

The condensation on the dipstick is normal. there is a TSB to fix it, but I have the same thing, and because it doesn't harm anything, I just let it go.

Well... the place you go get it serviced will follow Mazda's recommended oil unless you tell them to do otherwise.
I'd say change your own oil...
As for the oil light coming on and off while cruising anyway... again, that is a function of the oil-pan design. I don't know if changing the oil weight will take car of the oil light at start-up, but its a good place to start.

.
With this oil pan .. is this actually a problem.?. i.e will it effect the cars performance or is it a case of "if you can live with light coming on and off ever so often" then its fine? of course aslong as you keep checking the oil level every couple of days?
