18 degree cold weather

Ok first off i have a 2005 53K miles

just made a trip up north from texas roughly 1200 miles.. car ran solid the entire way...

it became a ice cube...
i finally got to the house and parked it for a couple of hours (2 hrs) or so in 15 degree weather and when i was gnna move it i turned it on.. it started right away but it threw out a ton of smoke! more than normal.. and it smelled like something was burning.. and a loud knocking noise coming from the engine with serious vibration.. i let it warm up and it would not rev past 7K rpm and had severe power loss..
I drove it for a bit and it kept back firing ALOT! and after a few driving cycles it ran a little better but it was vibrating and it seemed to idle fine with a couple of drops of the rpm but didnt stall..
Im pondering what this could be.....

any help ofoany information is appreciated..

i had the Mazsport coild but i put back the stock coils.. they have rouchly 50 K miles on them.. I assumed they were the cause but i was unsure..

the car isnt used to the cold weather it has never been driven under 30 degree weather

My Mazdaspeed CAI screws with my car if the screens come out of alignment..

Just throwing it out there.. It messes the idle up, backfires a ton, and sometimes won't rev high.

Damn it why did I have to read this! Im about to attempt a ride from TX to Jersey(similar distance) and im a bit nervous cause, in part, I dont trust this car very much!

Your post is damn near a carbon copy of my deal lol

Good to know the filters will freeze, I'll look out for that.

Good luck and hope everything works out without to much trouble.

The smoke is WHITE and it smells like something is burnt..

once its fully warmed up its fine.. i just let it sit for a little longer and i waited and it turned on just fine and it drove fine as well... i went to autozone and got some air filter cleaner.. but its soooo damn cold its like 16 degree right now.. and snow is everywhere..

a carbon copy? well the engine was at 3K rpm for the longest time and i let it idle over night since we had to pull over and sleep and no hotels were open.. I rev it up a bit.. it seems fine now. but watch it with that air filter it gets literally frozen!

great.. now i found some damage.... i had baught some side skirts and got them painted and they have been flawless for the past several months.. i just finished knocking some ice out of my car and where the front tire is the side skirt paint has been removed... hmmmm i guess it was a crapy paint job on the skirts.. and it seemed really good
