07 rx8 rough idle, loss of power @ higher RPM, eng sounds rough

i have an 07 rx8 with about 61k miles on it that has a rough idle and will lose power when i start to get on it and speed up. its hard to notice the loss of power early on but about 4k it starts to flatline in power. i have read many posts on here and its hard to get the correct info pieces from each thread.. i was just curious if someone could list the possible causes of eng los of power.. the eng has no mods.

so far i thought it might be the fuel system ( sock, filter, pump ect..) as i have driven it low on gas a few times recently.. but from what ive read it could be the a lot of things.
could someone please list anything that could cause these signs? i odnt need a lot of info how to change the parts as i could figure that out, but i need a basic check list to go over when looking at it. there are no dash lights on, and i checked the maf, the bulb was brown on 1 side, black on the other but thats for temp right? the inside wires looked clean, but will check in the morning.

any help is appreciated

^^^^ Much help good sir!! awesome link.

( coils/plugs/wires) --> seems to be the general concensus about my issue.
was just curious if it could be related to other issues.. but i have noticed my center console gets pretty warm..thermals would be a good sign of a cat going out, though i havent seen it glowing yet.. i did notice a slight odd smell after i got to work though. almost smelt like burnt antifreeze or some melted plastic or something.. the car didnt overheat though. no leaks on ground or wet spots on the underside that i noticed. will look again when its not dark and freezin *** cold outside like it was at my midnight break.

center console is right above the tranny and cat. It get's hot. Completely normal.
However, unbearably hot is an issue. If it smells sweet, make sure that you check your coolant regularly for the next little while. If you notice a large drop, that's bad.

Use that google link for all future searches. Instead of oil, type in a key word, and it should lead you to the right place

Same issue

I am also having the same issue. In addition, I'm getting a heavy fuel smell outside and inside of the car. I'm almost certain that it's the cat.

I've just recently had this issue and solved it now, bran is your call stalling at all? First thing I'd check is the maf and vacuum leaks
