04 rx8 55k miles. Getting a weard exhaust sound.
Ok so I know the rules read threads first then ask. I can't really find a thread for unnatural deep exhaust sound. Sorry guys. But anyway the problem.
P.s. My car is stock and manual transmition. Also I haven't gotten any warning codes yet.
So when I go to start about 80% of the time the engine has a hard time starting. Like it almost stalls on start up. Then loss in power until abot 5000k rpm. And once I get to 5000k the exhaust sounds deeper like the cats have been removed. I know this can always end up being a million different things and I wish I had a code to go off but if I did I wouldn't be asking for help. Thanks for your time and any help or other thread links would be greatly appreciated.

I had the coils changed at about 40k miles and the water pump was changed less than a year ago. I was hoping coils but I'll add cat to my list.

yea cat is your problem. i would say insted of fixing original mid pipe just go out and buy a performance one (BHR) iv heard great things about them. But if cat is not the problem then you might have motor problems. You drive hard to get the carbon out? or let the car warm up properly?

I ve heard that sometimes you need to hold it up at 9000rpm every once is a while to clean carbon is that what you mean. and I always warm it up but it helps that I live in so cal.

yea thats what i mean but instead of once and a while i tend to do it pretty regularly especially if you do a lot of city driving. It will not hurt the rotary at all. Just dont go past 9000. How bad is the power loss?

Well I had my coils and plugs replaced in April so I hope it's not them. Went to dealer and they said that the plugs are still under warranty. So I took it in. I guess tomorrow we will find out if it's bad plugs and coils or I hope a new engine. Let's cross our fingers for a new free engine.

I forgot to repost. It did not pass compression after new plugs and stuff so I get a new engine for free under the extended core warranty. Thanks again for all your input guys.
