your specific problem i would definitely get looked over, happening in neutral seems odd to me. It could be something other then the torque converter. Getting louder when getting on it harder also makes me start to consider other things.

just got the word from the dealership....new engine.

next weekend my 8 is getting a engine swap...

however they said they might need new coils and wires and plugs...
Will they let me put the old ones back in the new engine and do it my self...obviously thats cheaper than 600 bucks for new stuff from them.

yea it sounded pretty bad, did you experience any real losses in power? knock sounds like that from a rotor motor are pretty serious damage indicators.

kevin.

I juse sent you another PM...but illpost it here for others advice as well

I jsut bought this car...on the 7th and already it needs a new engine, and they want to charge me ( if it needs it...im sure they will say yes) new coils, plugs and wires for $695

personally i think that's asinine, I haven't even made my first payment and they want me to pay 700 bucks for this...

who would you guys recommend talking to?? the dealership sales man, or mazda directly?

I understand its regular maintenance for a car to have these things done, ive owned a car or 4 before lol. But seriously, isnt somehting not right about getting a car from a "reputable" local dealership and having something like this happen?

isnt this somehting that could have been prevented with a full car inspection before they re-sell the car??

The engine is covered up to 100,000 miles or 8 years what ever comes first. Tell them Mazda said so. Cuz like they did. Look up and call or email mazda of north america.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You know I wonder if this is the sound that mysticl or what ever his name is was talking about when he was driving his car on the free way.
Hey Kevin do you think coil(s) upgrade/after market can do this?

The core is covered to 8 / 100 miles? or did you mean 100,000 miles??? if he lost compression then he should be covered.

If they want to charge him close to $700 to put some parts on that will take him about one hour tops then thats up to him. But from what he posted, it sounds like they are going to give him a new engine but want to charge him for new coils spark plugs and spark plug wires.
I say he buys all that for $300. and he can check out the DIY on how to install them parts.

yea,

100 miles. like i mean 8 days and 100 miles?

coils plugs wires are extra. yes it would be smart to do it yourself.

but it is not included or covered under warranty.

yea but if he supplies them the new parts installing them wouldn't add additional labor so he wouldnt be paying to have them installed.

That would be the best money saving strategy if you want them to install it.

DOMINION: not sure about aftermarket coil setups, personally havent looked into them at all.

if you can get a finger or long thing piece of metal onto the body of the injector you can feel the pulse/open&close of the injector, see if it matches the noise. it's a pretty rough diagnostic but it could help lead you the right away, personally i dont think it would be the cause of the noise tho.
