Yes, the Oil Pressure "Gauge" is FAKE.
I'm seeing confusion about this in various threads, so here's the truth: The oil pressure gauge in the RX-8 is just like the one in the later Miatas.... i.e. it's a glorified "idiot light". The gauge does not give any data about true oil pressure values, which fluctuate considerably depending on what the engine is doing. The "gauge" we have simply indicates if there is, or is not, oil pressure; it's position never changes unless you have NO oil pressure. Of course, once that happens, it's probably too late.
I'm hoping one of you folks will figure out a way to retrofit a sending unit that will make the gauge actually, y'know... useful. Miata guys have done that using sending units from the earlier cars. Any takers?
