I finally did have the light checked out and it turned out my electric converter was busted. Luckily warranty covered everything cause the dealer said it would have been a few grand. They did some other stuff to but as long as i didnt have to pay for it i was cool with it.

well he is lucky at 19, i had a shitty ass jetta when i was 19 and that bitch broke down every day...so compared to that, we are all in heaven.....vw's suck...well they used to....don know abt now...

one confusion i have, we can start driving off when cold right?as long as we dont rev it hard? I know we cant shut her off cold....

B-Ron 05-30-2006 04:33 AM

He said Electric converter, the other stuff was just some spark plugs. Yeah i wasnt really paying attention, i heard warranty will cover it and it wasnt may fault so i stopped paying attention. I really do love my car.....

I'd say it was most likely the catylitic converter, from what you're telling us. When they're fouled, the dealer almost always replaces the plugs as well. This of course can happen because of flooding among other things.

It takes some time to learn the 8's clutch, but I would advise learning to shift at low rpms most of the time. High rpm shifting all the time will eventually kill your synchros, put lots of stress on your engine, and of course eat up a LOT more gas. If you go a tank with the manufacturer's recommended shift points (in dreaded manual), you'll see what I mean.

Don't get me wrong- this car is definitely for driving hard- just not every trip to the Circle K.

Engine light problem: Don't fill up with the car running. Sounds rudamentary, but if you are doing it, that will cause the engine light to come on. Problem on many new cars these days.

You can start off driving when its cold (I let the rpms drop below 1500 before moving which is about 25-30 seconds in mild temperatures) but you can risk flooding if you stall out. But I don't think flooding would really be a problem, especially on the newer models, if you immediatly turn the car back on. I think its just if it sits after its been turned off cold. But yes, do not rev/drive hard until the engine has been fully warmed up at least 10 minutes.
