Why didn't I get a CEL, MIL, or whatever the cool kids call them nowadays?

I don't know, he said he can run tests that I can't with my scanner.
I picked this up at Advance auto the other day (http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16309)......and was blown away that it told me the temp of my CAT. I can't believe I have never owned one of these before.

if its 1500+ degress, and glowing red when free revving, you have a serious problem.

Is that the way the engine works though.....after getting a signal of pressure in the CAT the engine tries to turn itself off.....and after restarting it will clear the engine to allow you to "get on it" again.

I think it was glowing red from driving home, it was about 60 miles of 80 MPH driving.
You think its a serious problem with the CAT, or just a serious problem.
Regardless, I'm driving the van tomorrow and garaging the 8 until I get it to the dealer Wednesday night.

Think of it, when your car is moving, you get even more *cool* air than standing still.
You should not have glowing red on a stand still, does it make sense to have a glowing red Cat after a highway cruise ? I mean it could be, if you keep your RPM @ 9K all the time in 2nd or 1st gear.
You didnt do that right? so yep, Check the CAT.

It appears to be intermittent, since I drove about 300+ miles this weekend with no trouble, but I didn't really get on it.
How do I make sure the dealer takes my word that it was glowing red. I'm afraid he make me throw money at the spark plugs, coils, wires, etc. before tackling the CAT. I am going to "get on it" tomorow when I go to pick up the van and see if I can get it to glow red again to get a picture of it....it's only going to be about 5 miles of driving.
I do want to request a new rear oxygen sensor if the CAT is bad since I just replaced it with one from the dealership....and I'm sure with it setting in a glowing red atmosphere it wasn't really good for it.
Here is a picture of the one I took out....it did look a little charred when I took it out. I going to take it to the dealer when I go:

I had issues with my Miata and I suspected a CAT problem when I pulled the code. I basically just asked them what they would do and what procedures they take in identifying the problem, how they would fix it, etc. If I wasn't happy with their responses then I would have taken it somewhere else.

they cant make you buy anything, whether its a warranty or your paying for it, the dealer CANNOT make you buy something, just like anywhere else, no one can make you buy something, and if they put the extra **** on your car and you didnt sign for it, you tell them that you wont pay for it! i have a hard enough time taking my car to the dealer, i dont trust ANYONE with my car. Dealers tend to **** me off really easy

Update 2
OK, I always hate when people post their problems and never follow up with the solution that fixed it.
I got my car back on Thursday 11/1 and was sure glad to see it again after a week without.
It seems to drive ok, BUT after hard driving the CAT still glows around the rear O2 sensor.....I guess it's normal. It drives strong, hit 135mph for awhile, no loss of power.....yet.
I guess the real test will be this week when I spend a week on the road with it.
The CAT was replaced under warranty.....no charges at all. I will be ordering spark plugs and coils in the coming week for trial and error troubleshooting, should the problem return.

Well, I put about a 1,000 miles on her in the past few weeks. The problem hasn't returned. I would hit 100+ mph and averaged about 85+ for 3 hours. I was able to throw down to 3rd and 4th gear when passing and I had no issues.
About the glowing, it depends on how hard I drive it. I bet if people hang on their steering wheel and look under their vehicle after some hard driving others would see it too.
