White residue at bottom of dipstick

After changing my oil, when I remove the dipstick there's some white crap at the bottom the stick, I did a search here on the boards but came up with nothing...

anyone have information about this they could share? Is this something I should be concerned about? And, if so, how would I get rid of it?

thanks a bunch!

Sorry, I call "BS" on searching for it. There are literally hundreds of threads on the milky substance on the dipstick in cold weather. You just made another one.

Short story, it's normal, nothing to worry about.

yeah cause I love wasting my time typing in windows, why would I do that if I could get an answer with fewer keystrokes?

I searched for "white residue on dipstick" and I think if you do the same you'll find 2 threads, none of which would have answers.

But hey, thank you for pointing me in the right direction dude.

I didn't mean to be offensive, it's just that when we see the same questions asked over and over and over and over and over, to the point that there have been a few "fantasy betting" sessions predicting when the first "milky dipstick?" thread of the upcoming winter season will be made...

It just gets tiring after a while. Like listening to your kids yell "are we there yet?" every few minutes the entire trip.

(And I got 13 threads, 4 of which addressed the issue directly, and changing over to "show posts" gets 19 posts with 10 of them commenting on it. And all 5 related threads at the bottom of this window are addressing it.)

Edit:
And "just ignoring it" is harder than you think We don't go looking for these threads, there are just a bunch of us that watch iSpy, which shows all posts in real time as they are posted, which has been invaluable to provide quick answers to people looking for immediate help. We see a question, especially one we know the answer to, and we jump in headfirst Often better than waiting for others to stumble on it and give you bad information, which happens too frequently, either with joking intent or ignorance.

Hehe, it's not like we sit there in breathless anticipation waiting to answer every post....well, SOME people do, but I don't. I just have it in it's own window along the bottom of my screen and it only takes a moment to scan the post to see if it warrants a click into the thread. Most of my time is still busy with other stuff that I have up at the same time

Searching helps, but of course it's not always easy to know what words to search on! Which is why this problem crops up regularly. There is a "sticky" thread in the "troubleshooting" section that covers "Strange Gunk on Dispstick". But people have described it as "milky", "foam", "pudding", "goop", and about 80 other different adjectives. Now we can add "white residue"

Anyway, check that sticky thread in "Troubleshooting" for more information than you ever wanted to know....

Did that list of threads appear after the first post, with "white residue?" Or after the followups that used the standard term "milky"?

If those relevant threads did show up after only the original, I recommend that the admins replace the search engine with whatever generates those links.

The exchange in the first few posts of this thread is priceless.

We should do an experimental thread Ken only putting one or two terms in the first post, then maybe two more in the second post and see what happens.

Matter of fact..............right now there are 4 terms down there under tags, so that is what drives the similiar threads?
I'm wondering what algorithm is being used for the tags or is it merely certain words or combo of words themselves?
I'm willing to give it a shot here. The question is, how should we go about it to avoid contaminating the results with 'explanations'?

Ha ha.............I deleted that post. Was thinking about it and we should be able to just watch any brand new thread that's started and figure out how or what it does.

I did the same with some terms and didn't seem to take, just like yours. I then went back and deleted my post. Not really up on VB code so not sure how/when it works? Maybe I should start a thread in the lounge and see if we can find out.

Think we need the following answers:

1.) How and when are "Similar Threads" developed?
2.) How and when are "Tags" developed(and what is real use)?
3.) What is relationship between "Tags" and "Similar Threads"?
4.) Are "Tags" and/or "Similar Threads" updated during the life of a thread?

2) I am 100% positive I have seen an "edit tags" link before, and in threads I haven't created. I am not sure what causes that link to appear vs not appear. IF you click the word "tags" on the tags line, it brings you to a search window where you can search for all threads with a tag you type in. If you click a given tag, it will give you search results for all threads with that tag attached.

4) yes. I am 100% positive I have seen tags added to threads. I believe there is an automatic side, as well as manual.

I just went to the socal lounge, being the longest thread on the forum, and it has these tags:
camry, dimensions, extreme, italiana, legit, lounge, pics, renesis, sa70, showthread, socal, that's how i roll!!!, trattoria, wedsport, yelp
However, it only has these 3 related threads:

I don't know if this should be in the lounge... racerdave Australia/New Zealand Forum 14 03-06-2004 03:49 AM
So I don't think the related threads are based on the tags, or the thread content. If they were tag based, there is enough there for the 5 related threads. If it was content based, 42,000 responses is enough for at least 5 related threads.

So I bet that the related threads is based on the title, in which case the socal lounge is only 2 words, very little to match on.

This thread was just started: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/ignition-source-methanol-injection-188774/

And it doesn't have any tags, but it does already have 5 related threads:

^............yeah I actually explored tags for the first time last night. Jumped the gun without doing my own research first!

I agree, "Similar Threads" looks like title based only.
