On the passenger side firewall. Remove the windshield washer fluid bottle. You will see a circle on the firewall area where it looks like the brake booster location for the right hand drive cars would come through. You can drill into the cabin there without hitting anything behind it.

If its about 8 gauge or less, you can poke a hole(with a phillips screwdriver) in the rubber wiring bundle grommet under the drivers side. Its the big black rubber mass that leads into the engine compartment high on the left side of where the hood release goes into the engine compartment. This is the easiest way to do it.
This may be the easiest, but I would recommend drilling a hole with its own grommet to preserve the air/water tightness of the firewall, you will have to do this if you are running 4 gauge or higher into the compartment. Just buy a hole drill bit assembly to fit your grommet, and prepare to drill your hole.
On the manual transmission car, I found a nice space(but tiny!) to drill a hole on the right side of the hood release, and to the left of the clutch. Be careful though, if you drill it there, you only have about 1/2 inch diameter to work with, or else you will drill into the chassis welds or some various clutch parts.
Another place to drill is behind the winshield washer tank, search the forums and you should find the post, its about running 4 gauge wire for an amp.

When I routed my 12v lead to the dash for my nitrous system I pierced a small hole in the hood release cable grommet with a very sharp scratch awl and the wire taped to the tip of the awl. One step and the wire was fed through and doesn't leak. It was easiest to feed it from the passenger compartment to the engine compartment, first, and use the wire as a pull-line if your connection has already been made at the engine.

That's precisely where I pierced the grommet; in the pleats(or folds) of the rubber. Just make sure that the grommet you are looking at is the one for the hood release cable.
