what temp is to cold for oil temp?

No matter how long I let the car warm up as soon as I start driving my oil temp drops to 150's according to my gauges. Is this to cold or is it just fine I was premixing with MMO but after getting the AP I stopped now i'm a bit worried my oil is to thick(10w-30) for high rpm driving. I did a search and found nothing on the temp range but I did find a post on blocking off an oil cooler but no one said which one would be better to block off. Ideas, questions, comments, rude remarks.

it takes a while for oil to warm up.

For extreme cold weather, you might want to use 0w-30 or 0w40 oil. Which also means Synthetic Oil. They flow a lot better @ cold.

150 is ok for oil and do not block your oil coolers. I find the oil temps are always 20-30 lower than the water temp (180) unless I am on a track.

Takes a while it freaking takes for ever. Thats half my point i'll let it get to 185ish and as soon as I take off it startes dropping.

The reason i'm a bit worried is it's not that cold yet low 40's upper 30's in the morning I would hate to see what happens in single digit weather.

Guess this is a good excuss to tell the wife **** off I'm gettign the sohn and what is the adapter you can buy for a few extra bucks for.

In single digit weather my oil hits about 140 during a steady highway drive. It does take a while to get to that however.

Cooler is better... That's why the oil coolers are there in the first place... Mazda had issues with the auto trannies originally 'cause there was only 1 oil cooler in those, remember? Oil got too hot and bad things happened.

Generally speaking, the hotter the oil, the more it thins out, the less it protects. Cooler is better for protecting the parts, but offers up more restriction and "lower" fuel mileage, but hey, it's a rotary...gas mileage ain't its strong point anyhoo, so who cares?!

If it's cold the oil coolers are bypassed anyway...so blocking them doesn't really do anything. The oil temp will never be that much below the coolant temp that it will be a huge concern.

If you are driving in freezing temps in the winter you might want to go back to 5-30 oil till spring

I try not to push the car if the oil is below 150. It is much warmer here then where you are though.

I would say 140 or below, go EASY on the engine
